#1 Shaun Marsh (Kings XI Punjab, 2008)
The first-ever season of Indian Premier League was played in the year 2008 with 8 teams named on the basis of states of India. A total of 58 matches were played within a span of 2 months from April to June 2008. The franchise named Rajasthan Royals became the first team to lift the IPL trophy as they defeated Chennai Super Kings in a closely contested final.
But, the young Australian batsman Shaun Marsh, playing for the Kings XI Punjab was the most consistent batsman of the season as he helped his side reach the semi-finals during the IPL 2008. He emerged as the leading run scorer of that season with a total of 616 runs. He became the first player to win the Orange Cap in the history of Indian Premier League.
