IPL Auction 2016: Shane Watson, Pawan Negi, Yuvraj Singh fetch huge prices
Shane Watson fetched the highest bid in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2016 held in Bengaluru on Saturday. The Australian all-rounder was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for Rs. 9.5 cr.
Watson going for a huge price is not surprising considering he is the only player who has been named the Player of the Tournament twice (2008, 2013) in the IPL. The RCB top four will most likely look like – Chris Gayle, Watson, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers – which could rank as one of the most destructive batting line-ups ever seen in T20 cricket.
Pawan Negi was one of the biggest gainers from this auction. Just a day after getting selected in India’s squad for the World T20, he was bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs. 8.5 cr. and ended as the most expensive Indian player.
Yuvraj Singh, who was the most expensive player in the previous two IPL auctions, went for Rs. 7 cr. to SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). The Hyderabad-based franchise also spent Rs. 5.5 cr. to rope in left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra.
Two of the bigger surprises were Delhi Daredevils buying Chris Morris and Carlos Brathwaite for Rs. 7 cr. and Rs. 4.2 cr. respectively. The West Indian even expressed his surprise on Twitter.

Mohit Sharma was another player who went for a big amount – the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler was bought by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for 6.5 cr. The 24-year-old picked up 57 wickets in 47 matches for the Super Kings.
Mitchell Marsh, who previously played for Pune Warriors India, was bought by Rising Pune Supergiants for Rs. 4.8 cr.
International stars like Martin Guptill and Hashim Amla found no takers and remained unsold.
