IPL Auction 2019: Value for Money Buys
IPL is one of the biggest leagues in the cricketing world and a platform for young aspiring cricketers to showcase their talent to the world.
The IPL auction 2019 took place in Jaipur on 18th December, 2018. A total of 1,003 players registered for IPL. Among them, 351 players got shortlisted.
As the teams scouted for talent from the auction pool as per their requirements, the players ended up having a mixed bag of fortune. We look at the players who went for an amount lesser than their utility justifies.
#5 Lockie Ferguson (Base Price: 1 cr INR)
Lockie Ferguson is a New Zealand fast bowler who can bowl 90mph at ease. He can bowl in the powerplay as well as the death overs. He even played four matches for RPS in the tenth season of the IPL and had an economy rate of 7.15, conceding 93 runs from his four outings. KKR bought Ferguson for his base price of 1CR.
#4 Moises Henriques (Base Price: 1 cr INR)
After trading Marcus Stoinis for Mandeep Singh, KXIP needed a middle-order batsman who could finish matches and bowl a bit in the middle overs. So Aussie all-rounder Moises Henriques was one of the best options for KXIP.
Henriques has already played for MI, RCB and SRH. For most of his IPL career, he played for SRH and was consistent with both the bat and the ball.
Surprisingly no other franchise bid for Henriques and KXIP bought him for his base price of 1 cr in the auction. He is a player who can fill the gap between batting and bowling.
#3 Martin Guptill (Base Price: 1 cr INR)
Martin Guptill, an explosive opener and the leading run-scorer in the T20 internationals, will play this year's IPL for SRH.
Previously playing for KXIP in the 10th edition of the IPL, Guptill scored 132 runs at a strike rate of 150 in his seven outings. In the previous auction, he went unsold, but this season SRH bought him at his base price of 1 cr, which is a steal.
SRH has bought him as a replacement opener after they traded Shikhar Dhawan to DD.
