Reports: Colin Munro to replace Aaron Finch for Mumbai Indians
According to a report in The New Zealand Herald, Mumbai Indians have signed up New Zealand batsman Colin Munro as a replacement for the injured Aaron Finch. The Australian opener injured himself while attempting a quick single in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Rajasthan Royals last week.
Munro is a hard-hitting left-handed batsman, who can also turn his arm over when the need comes. He is known to be very innovative with his batting and often uses the switch-hit to great effect.
Just last month, the 28-year-old played one of the most astounding knocks the game of cricket has ever seen – scoring 281 from just 167 balls in a Plunket Shield game. He had slammed 23 sixes during his knock, which is a world record for a first-class match.
Munro has played 7 ODIs and 14 T20Is for the Blackcaps, with an impressive strike-rate of 130.20 in the shortest form of the game at the international level. He also has one Test cap to his name, which he earned back in 2013 against South Africa at Cape Town.
The Mumbai Indians have won just one match in the IPL so far this season and will be hopeful that someone like Munro can turn their fortunes around. The Ricky Ponting-coached side’s next encounter is against the Delhi Daredevils tonight.
