Low-profile encounter: Coming into this match, I didn’t have any players from Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils in my team. I expect that to be the case with many of you as well, with the way these two teams have started off in the tournament. That you need two captains here makes this situation an extremely challenging one.
Batting captain: Unless they play KC Cariappa, Kings XI Punjab’s best option to get rid of Quinton de Kock is Pardeep Sahu; that’s not telling a lot, does it? If I manage to carry the South African wicketkeeper-batsman till his next match, which I hope to, I will consider the move completely worth it.
Bowling captain: With the exception of Axar Patel, who excels in bowling restrictive lines, there are no dependable bowlers in either of these two teams. While I would like to get him in, doing so leads to a lot of transfers being used up to meet the combination requirements, which could prove to be really costly if the left-arm spinner doesn’t deliver. So, I will have to be content with captaining an uncapped bowler.

Delhi deck: I still don’t understand why Delhi is being considered a slow, low deck, especially after what we saw in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. Batsmen should have a field day on this pitch, and the shorter boundaries will only make their task easier.
Abundance of uncapped batting talent: Manan Vohra, Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer – all 3 are aggressive, talented and in-form. How do you pick the right one? Enter elimination chamber:
Iyer has been pushed down the order, and I am not sure how effective he could be coming in at No.3. Out!
In Amit Mishra, Pawan Negi, Chris Morris, Carlos Brathwaite and Nathan Coulter-Nile/Imran Tahir, Vohra will be facing a comparatively better bowling attack. Out!
That leaves you with Mayank Agarwal as the best uncapped batting option for the game. My team, however, needs a bowler, so all of these don’t really matter.
Unappealing overseas players: With the exception of De Kock, none of the other overseas players really make a case for them in this fixture. Form, the positions they play at and the team’s current status, all work against the likes of Brathwaite, Maxwell and Miller.
Shaun Marsh – will he or won’t he? There are no dependable reports to bank on, so there is no option but to wait till the playing XIs are announced to see whether the Australian batsman is fit enough to take his spot in the team. More than his individual contribution, it’s his impact on the team combination that will have a bigger say on how the match turns out.
Murali Vijay: Murali Vijay’s biggest issue in 2015 IPL seemed to be his inability to convert his starts. The first match this season, he still wasn’t able to carry on after looking as good as he has ever been in a T20 match. Also, it becomes really difficult to add uncertain one-dimensional players in your team when the combination requires you to field 6 bowlers all the time.
DD team insights: If the first match is anything to go by, the Daredevils don’t have any intention of promoting Brathwaite and Morris, which reduces both these players’ fantasy potential considerably.
The Zaheer Khan led team probably have the best local batting talents, but De Kock and Duminy need to play the bigger knocks for these youngsters to chip in with their cameos.
KXIP team insights: Kings XI think-tank slept through the 2016 auctions despite having failed miserably in their last season. As you sow, so shall you reap.
