IPL: Nine people arrested for betting

For involvement in betting on the Indian Premier League match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils, 9 people have been arrested by the Crime Branch. The match which took place in Kolkata on Thursday, 7th May saw the home side emerge victorious by 13 runs.

Inspector Sanjiv Kumar Yadav led a Crime Branch police team to Sarai village, Delhi, where they arrested the accused.

Yadav revealed that the men attacked the police with stones and battens to avoid getting caught. Two of them even shot at the cops which resulted in ASI Dei Lal and another policeman getting injured.

A few men managed to escape the police, but 9 men were caught. They have been identified as Aarif, Bakaar, Mushtak, Imran, Umshad, Nisar, Aamir, Aarif, and Abbas.

The nabbed men have been booked under the Arms Act and Gambling Act of the IPC and were produced in court on Friday.

Police recovered a country-made pistol, an empty bullet shell, a television and set-top box apart from cash amounting to nearly Rs. 7,000.
