IPL Records: Fastest fifty for each team in 2012
The fifth edition of the Indian Premier League was held between 4th April 2012 and 27th May 2012. A total of 76 matches were played between 9 teams (BCCI removed the Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchise), with each team playing against each other in 2 matches.
Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) topped the table with Kolkata Knight Riders finishing second and Mumbai Indians third. The final was played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai, with the former crowned champions for the first time, courtesy a brilliant knock from the unknown commodity Manvinder Bisla.
There were some very impressive performances with the bat as well as the ball, but let us take a look at the fastest-fifty from each team.
#9. Jesse Ryder: Pune Warriors India (33 Balls)
Pune Warriors India had a forgettable outing in 2012 as they were finding it hard to sneak a victory throughout the season. They lost 12 matches in total to finish at the bottom of the table.
One of the main reasons for their terrible losses were the individual performances as the team could not find a player they could look up to. But, even then Jesse Ryder managed to put on a commanding performance against Delhi Daredevils and helped his team in posting a rare dominating victory. Some exciting shot-making from him helped post a total that proved beyond the might of Delhi Daredevils' power-packed batting line-up, who at that stage of the tournament looked unbeatable.
He finished with a score of 86 from 58 balls and registered fastest fifty for his team in that season by scoring it in just 33 balls. Even though he got some backing from his captain Sourav Ganguly and Steven Smith, Ryder was the one doing most of the damage and was slaughtering reputed bowlers like Morne Morkel and Umesh Yadav.
