IPL Records: Purple Cap - Top 10 bowlers in 2017 IPL season
Like the Orange Cap is awarded to the highest run scorer of an IPL season, the highest wicket-taking bowler gets honored with a purple cap every year. In 2017, Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the purple cap playing for SRH by taking highest 26 wickets. From the same team, David Warner also won an Orange Cap that year.
In 2017, we saw many excellent spells by the bowlers in IPL, especially by the young bowlers. We also saw 3 hat-tricks taken by Samuel Badree, Jaydev Unadkat, and Andrew Tye respectively. Overall, we can say the bowlers prospered in IPL 2017 in a batsman dominated format like T20 cricket.
Many young and experienced players were in the race for the Purple Cap and there was a severe battle among the bowlers as there was only 1-2 wicket difference between the top 10 bowlers.
So let’s look out the top 10 list of the purple cap of IPL 2017.
#10 Pawan Negi (RCB)
Pawan Negi played for RCB in 2017 and proved his worthiness in the team by becoming the highest wicket-taker for his team. Pawan Negi took 16 wickets in just 12 innings in IPL 2017.
He took 16 wickets by conceding just 197 runs with an economy of 6.12. Pawan Negi is an all-rounder but was much more impressive as a bowler. But unfortunately, his efforts didn’t help RCB as they finished last in the points table.
#9 Chris Woakes (KKR)
Chris Woakes, the English bowling all-rounder played the role of a key fast bowler in his team and didn’t down heart his team as he took 17 wickets which included the wickets of many star players.
Woakes conceded a total of 386 runs with an economy of 8.77. Though being very expensive he soaked up the pressure in crucial moments and helped his team win matches.
