IPL Results 2016: Scores, Updated Points Table and Fixture Schedule after DD vs GL, Match 23, April 27
Zaheer Khan of Delhi Daredevils won the toss and had no hesitation in putting Gujarat Lions into bat. Chasing has been a standard practice in this tournament and the move looked sensible with dew expected later on in the game. Delhi made a couple changes with Rishabh Pant coming in to replace an out of form Shreyas Iyer and Shahbaz Nadeem getting a game. Aaron Finch's injury was a big blow for Gujarat Lions and James Faulkner was brought in for this game.

The rollicking start
Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum put on a hundred-run partnership in just 10 odd overs. It was carnage at the Kotla when no bowler was spared and these two ultra aggressive openers started scoring heavily in no time. The first over of the match from Zaheer which went for three boundaries set the tone for the Lions. Shahbaz Nadeem was very expensive when Smith tore into him. Soon Baz reached his 50 going from strength to strength. Dwayne Smith also got to the 50 run mark in just 26 balls. It was looking hopeless for Delhi after the first ten overs but soon things changed drastically.

The Daredevils pull it back brilliantly
The spinners and Chris Morris brought Delhi back in the contest with some exceptional bowling. Imran Tahir struck for the Daredevils when he caught Dwayne Smith in front of his stumps in the 11th over. McCullum soon followed Smith to the dug-out when he misses a straight delivery from Morris only to see his stumps rattled. It was a double strike for Morris when Raina fell yet again to a short ball. The spinners kept it tight after that and Tahir continued on his merry way. He picked up Dinesh Karthik and Ishan Kishan in the 17th over to restrict the Lions further. Lions finally managed to get 172 runs. They could only manage 62 runs in the back ten of their innings after they got a mammoth 110 in their first ten overs. It was indeed a tale of two halves.
The Dhawal Kulkarni show
Kulkarni who has forever been on the cusps of an Indian call-up started splendidly for the Lions. He picked up three quality top order wickets of Sanju Samson, Karun Nair and the big fish Quinton de Kock. He bowled excellent channels and picked up his scalps by bowling back of a length. Again the Daredevils were struggling at the halfway mark and needed some inspiration to stay in the contest.
Outstanding Morris and heartbreak for Delhi! Lions win by 1 run!!
The Daredevils were looking dead and buried but yet again the pattern was similar to the previous innings. When Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Faulkner, Chris Morris walked in to join JP Duminy. After 30 minutes, Morris had notched up his 50 off 17 balls. Such was the magnitude of his destruction that the Lions didn’t know what hit them. Morris dealt in huge sixes and Delhi leaked runs profusely. Duminy got out against the run of play to Bravo. Praveen Kumar bowled an excellent penultimate over to get the equation to 14 off the last over. Faulker dropped Morris in the last over but that didn’t hurt Gujarat in the end as Bravo was able to defend the runs successfully in the last over. Delhi needed 4 off the last ball with Morris on strike but Bravo denied Delhi a famous win by getting the ball right in the blockhole. Delhi went down by just 1 run but Morris won millions of hearts with an innings of sheer bravado. Morris finished with 82 off just 32 balls and that included 8 humongous sixes! He was also awarded the ‘man of the match’ for an innings that will be remembered for a long time to come.
Brief scores:
Gujarat Lions: 172/6 off 20 overs (Smith 53, McCullum 60)
Delhi Daredevils: 171/5 off 20 overs (Morris 82*, Duminy 48)
Sixer and a fifty for @Tipo_Morris! Fastest fifty in the IPL this season, just off 17 balls. #DilDilli #DDvGL
