IPL Results 2016: Scores, Updated Points Table and Fixture Schedule after DD vs. KKR, SRH vs. RCB

Warner scored a 50 ball 92 to help take SRH to 194 and also won the MOM for his knock

DD VS KKR, DELHI

Kolkata Knight Riders captain, Gautam Gambhir chose to bowl on a scorching afternoon at the Feroz Shah Kotla, after winning the toss. Both teams read the pitch differently with the Knight Riders bringing in three spinners and the Daredevils going in with extra seamers.

KKR made three changes to their team, with spinners Piyush Chawla and Brad Hogg as well as the seam-bowling all-rounder Jason Holder coming in for Chris Lynn, Jaydev Unadkat and Shakib Al Hasan.

Daredevils made four changes to their squad, with Carlos Brathwaite and Mohammed Shami strengthening their pace attack. Shreyas Iyer also found a place in the side after missing out on the last match. Sam Billings who will play in his first ever IPL match also found a place in the starting XI. JP Duminy, Pawan Negi, Shahbaz Nadeem and Imran Tahir made way for the four changes. With the changes coming in this means that Delhi has four frontline pacers Morris, Brathwaite, Zaheer and Shami, and a solitary spinner in Amit Mishra.

DD off to the worst possible start

Delhi got off to a terrible start, losing both openers in the first over. Shreyas Iyer fell first trapped in front by Russell and de Kock fell two balls later going for a pull and being caught in the deep. Sanju Samson also lost his wicket within the powerplay outfoxed by Narine. Next to come in was debutant Sam Billings, he didn’t seem to have any first match nerves as he got off to a rollicking start and ably partnered Karun Nair who looked in great form himself.

Nair and Billings take DD to a respectable total

After the dreadful that DD got off to, Nair and Billings steadied the ship with some brilliant batting. The two brought up their 50 run partnership in the 12th over and four overs later brought up their 100 run partnership with lusty blows from both batsmen. Karun Nair looked a different batsman today with powerful sweeps and cheeky reverse sweeps after, a dismal outing in the last two games. He scored a 50 ball 68 with nine fours and a six. Billings too made the most of the opportunity he got, scoring a 50 on debut. The young Englishman looked aggressive as he used his feet well against the spinners and equally skillfully taking on the faster bowlers. Billings scored a 34 ball half century and also had the chance to see World T20 hero, Carlos Brathwaite hit a few meaty blows from close quarters after DD’s hero in the last match, Morris fell for a duck. Brathwaite dug into the bowlers from ball one as he smashed anything that came in his way. In belligerent form, Brathwaite hit 34 off just 11 deliveries with three sixes and fours each. Heroics from Nair, Billings and Brathwaite took DD to a total of 186 of their 20 overs after the horrifying start they had.

KKR start slow and fall short by 27 runs

The Knight Riders started off slow as captain Zaheer Khan bowled in the right places and dictated the terms. Morris who shared the new ball with Khan also strangled the batsmen and did not let them get away with easy deliveries. Zaheer got the breakthrough in the third overtaking his counterpart Gambhir’s wicket off a brilliant delivery which Gambhir edged. Two overs later Piyush Chawla, who was promoted to number three was caught in front and adjudged LBW. Robin Uthappa was the only one played a good innings as wickets tumbled at the other end.  Only three batsmen other than Uthappa got into double figures. KKR put up an extremely dismal performance and did not seem like they even had a chance to win the match.

Zaheer once again puts up a brilliant performance with the ball picking up three wickets for 21 runs in 3.3 overs to restrict KKR to 159 off 18.3 overs and winning the fixture by 27 runs.

Match Result:

DD: 186/8 (20 overs) K.Nair 68, Billings 54; Russell 26-3

KKR: 159/10 (18.3 overs) Uthappa 72; Z.Khan 21-3

MOM: Carlos Brathwaite 34, 47-3

SRH VS RCB, HYDERABAD

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli who won his second toss of the season opted to bowl in Hyderabad after rains delayed the toss and play by an hour. RCB made four changes to their squad and did not pick Chris Gayle after left-hander rejoined the squad after his paternity leave. Royal Challengers will chase for the first time this season.

RCB chose Varun Aaron for Stuart Binny, Harshal Patel for Yuzvendra Chahal, Parvez Rasool for Iqbal Abdulla and Sachin Baby for Sarfaraz Khan. RCB fielded chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi and Rasool, along with four pacers to have a six-pronged bowling attack.

David Warner made three changes to his side and said at the toss that he would have chosen to bowl as well. SRH will feature four seamers and no spinners at all. Kane Williamson will place in place of Eoin Morgan, Ashish Reddy for Aditya Tare and Barinder Sran for left-arm spinner Bipul Sharma.

The David Warner Show

SRH once again banked heavily on Captain David Warner, after losing inform Dhawan early. Kane Williamson who was playing his first match this IPL after missing out the previous matches due to injury joined skipper Warner and two dug their heels in and put up a 120 run partnership. Warner once again was the most aggressive batsman taking every bowler on and depositing them into the stands.

Warner and Williamson score a 126 run partnership

Warner scored a 50 ball 92 comprising of nine fours and five sixes, after this innings Warner became the owner of the Orange cap, leading Kohli by 28 runs. Williamson played second fiddle to Warner, as the latter stuck into the bowlers. Kane scored 50 off 38 deliveries. Henriques made a quick fire 31 of 14 to give a final thrust to the SRH innings and help them finish at a strong position and end at 194/5 in their 20 overs.

Bangalore lose Virat early

RCB did get off to a flying start thanks to Rahul who looked aggressive from the outset. Virat started off cautiously and kept giving the strike to Rahul who was timing the ball sweetly. Virat’s cautious innings came to end when he played a cut shot straight to the point fielder when on only 14. Rahul looked in good nick and brought up fifty in quick time. AB and Rahul looked set to put up a big partnership as they ran well and got the odd boundary. Rahul fell trying to nudge one down to third man but instead edged to the wicketkeeper while on 51.  Watson fell soon too, due to some lethargic running and was run out by a direct hit by Sran.

AB and Baby can’t take RCB home

Sachin Baby joined AB as the run rate crept over 12 an over, de Villiers started to accelerate as he kept up with the required run rate hitting at least a boundary every over, but fell while trying to plonk Sran over long on.  He scored 47 off 32 deliveries with three fours and a six. Sachin Baby playing his first game this IPL also played a good knock but couldn’t help take RCB home despite his 16 ball 27. Jadhav hit a 15 ball 25 towards the end but RCB still lost the match by 15 runs.
