IPL Results 2016: Scores, Updated Points Table and Time Table/Schedule after RCB vs MI Match

MI players celebrate the fall of an RCB wicket

It was the clash of the heavyweights as the Mumbai Indians played visitors to the Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 11th. Both teams were looking to gather momentum, as both were placed just below the qualifying spots on the points table. Few good wins can ensure a playoff slot for them. MI had already defeated RCB once in the tournament. This game promised to be an enthralling encounter between the two.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first.

Playing XIs:

Mumbai Indians:

Rohit Sharma(c), Parthiv Patel(wk), Ambati Rayudu, Krunal Pandya, Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard, Nitish Rana, Harbhajan Singh, Tim Southee, Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Chris Gayle, Lokesh Rahul(wk), Virat Kohli(c), AB de Villiers, Shane Watson, Sachin Baby, Stuart Binny, Sreenath Aravind, Chris Jordan, Varun Aaron, Yuzvendra Chahal

MI remove the big two early

Kohli started with a six in the first over but was dismissed by McClenaghan off his very first ball. Southee then got the big fish Chris Gayle out for just 5 runs. RCB were at 25/2 at the end of the powerplay as AB de Villiers joined KL Rahul to repair the early damage.

Krunal Pandya bagged the prized ABD to leave RCB tottering

Rahul and de Villiers built together a partnership of 43 and looked like steadying the innings. But a quicker one from Krunal Pandya deceived ABD and he could hit it as far as to deep mid wicket fielder. The hopes then rested on Rahul and Watson to get to a decent total.

Rahul’s spirited effort guided RCB past 150

The lone warrior was KL Rahul who played a precious innings of 68 and gave the RCB bowlers something to defend. The innings never really kicked off. MI bowlers kept it tight for most parts of the innings. The fielding was also brilliant. Rohit Sharma ran Shane Watson out courtesy of a direct hit. In the end, some big hits from Rahul and Sachin Baby yielded 50 runs off the last 4 overs. They finished with a total of 151/4 which is their lowest in the tournament so far. Krunal Pandya was the pick of the bowlers as he gave away just 15 runs off his 4 overs and got the prized scalp of ABD

MI recovered after early loss

Parthiv Patel departed early for just 1 run. A rising delivery outside off from Sreenath Aravind took the edge of the slashing blade of Parthiv and went straight to Watson at slip. Rayudu joined Rohit in the middle then and both started taking control of the innings. MI reached 39 for the loss of one wicket as the powerplay finished.

RCB picked two quick wickets to keep the game in balance

Varun Aaron claimed an all important wicket of Rohit Sharma just when he was starting to look good. He was dismissed for 24 runs off 25 balls. The debutant Nitish Rana failed to make a mark and got out soon for 9 runs. Ambati Rayudu kept the hopes alive as he hit some delightful strokes. The equation became difficult and the onus to play a big innings rested on Pollard.

Pollard and Butler’s devastating hitting won it for MI

It was the brute power of the MI’s two big-hitters Kieron Pollard and Jos Butler that lit up the stadium at Bangalore. At one stage the match seemed to have slipped from the grasps of MI, but the two hit some big sixes to seal a dominant win for them. Pollard scored 35 off 19 with 2 sixes and Butler hit 3 sixes for his 29 runs off 11 balls.

They won with 8 balls to spare. An important win for them in the context of the league. Kohli was disappointed yet again as they just don’t have the bowlers to defend totals. It makes very difficult for RCB from here to qualify for the playoffs. MI are back in business with this win as they move to number 4 in the points table.

Match Result:

RCB 151/4 (20 overs) Rahul 68, Baby 25, Krunal Pandya 15/1

MI 153/4 (18.4 overs) Rayudu 44, Pollard 35, Aaron 37/2

MI won by 6 wickets

MOM: Krunal Pandya
