It was a critical clash for both the teams as they need most of their remaining games to pose a claim for a spot in top 4. Kohli and Rahul started at the rate of knots
The highly successful opening duo of the Challengers begun with some classy shots. KL Rahul took the initiative to up the ante and scored 20 runs of Stoinis’s over. They added 63 runs for the first wicket before Rahul was castled by Cariappa for 42. Two balls later, the mystery spinner removed the skipper Kohli for 20.
Watson departed soon as Punjab bowlers tighten the screws
The hat trick man of IPL Axar Patel got the dangerous Watson out clean bowled for just a run. The run-scoring became difficult with some decent bowling. AB and Baby then got together and slowly but steadily started to rebuild the innings.
AB’s special helps Challengers edge past 170
If Kohli didn’t, AB would do it for you. He came into his own as he hit some of his ramp shots to display his 360 degrees hitting abilities. Unfortunately, he was dismissed for 64 off just 35 balls in the 18th over. It surely made a difference of at least 10 runs to the ultimate score. Sachin Baby remained not out till the end for 33 and Challengers ended up at 175/6. The bowlers now need to stand up and back up the good work done by the batsmen.
Amla departed after a good start
A treat to the cricket lovers was up for grabs as two classical batsmen Amla and Vijay hit some delightful boundaries to provide a nice start. Amla went back after getting a start for 21. Punjab reached 50 runs at the end of the powerplay as Saha joined Vijay in the middle.
Vijay marched on win a victory in sights
The skipper Murali Vijay was in a sublime form as he kept manoeuvring the bowlers around with orthodox cricket shots. He reached his fifty off 36 balls and commanded the KXIP’s run chase. Earlier Chahal got Rahul and Miller out stumped off consecutive deliveries to hamper the chase. But Vijay carried on and the hopes were still alive for them.
Vijay’s masterclass went invain as RCB seal a thriller
Murali Vijay’s magnificent innings of 89 turned out to be on the losing side as RCB won by 1 run. It was a nail biting finish as all 3 results were possible till the last ball. Kohli was pumped as he came roaring towards the bowler. Spare a thought for Stoinis, he held his nerve and almost got his team over the line. Important win this for RCB as they move up a place to number 6 on the points table.
