IPL team-wise list of players named in India's squads for Sri Lanka tour
The BCCI announced the Indian men's squads for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, which is set to begin on July 27 and conclude on August 7. The series will consist of three T20Is in Pallekele and three ODIs in Colombo, with this being India's new head coach Gautam Gambhir's first assignment with the team.
Rohit Sharma has made himself available for the ODI squad and will be leading the side, with Suryakumar Yadav named as the T20I captain ahead of Hardik Pandya.
Twenty-one different players have been named in the 15-man squads for the two formats, with plenty of representation from across the ten IPL teams. Let's now look at the IPL team-wise list of players named in India's squads for the Sri Lanka tour.
#1 Chennai Super Kings
Players in the Indian Squad: Shivam Dube (T20Is and ODIs)
All-rounder Shivam Dube is the only CSK player selected for the Sri Lanka tour. The southpaw is being backed for both the T20I and the ODI legs, with Hardik Pandya getting rested in the latter allowing Dube to get the nod.
Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad miss out in both formats.
#2 Delhi Capitals
Players in the Indian Squad: Rishabh Pant (T20Is and ODIs), Axar Patel (T20Is and ODIs), Khaleel Ahmed (T20Is and ODIs), and Kuldeep Yadav (ODIs).
DC skipper Rishabh Pant is a part of the T20I and ODI squads, with the wicketkeeper returning to the ODI team after his injury. Axar Patel and Khaleel Ahmed are also part of both squads. Kuldeep Yadav makes it to the ODI squad after being rested for the T20Is.
It will be interesting to see whether Pant will also be India's first-choice keeper in the ODIs or if KL Rahul retains that role.
#3 Gujarat Titans
Players in the Indian Squad: Shubman Gill (T20Is and ODIs).
GT captain Shubman Gill is the only member of the side to get selected for the Indian squad.
Gill has been named the vice-captain for India in both T20Is and ODIs ahead of Hardik Pandya, indicating that the opening batter has been earmarked as one of the potential future captaincy candidates across formats.
#4 Kolkata Knight Riders
Players in the Indian Squad: Shreyas Iyer (ODIs), Rinku Singh (T20Is), and Harshit Rana (ODIs).
KKR captain Shreyas Iyer makes his return to the ODI team after a successful IPL campaign, and it must provide him much relief returning to the national side after missing out on a central contract earlier this year. Rinku Singh retains his spot in the T20I squad and is set to play a pivotal role in the Indian middle-order.
After a stellar showing in the IPL, Harshit Rana receives his maiden ODI call-up, and he'll be hoping to get some game-time operating as a back-up for Arshdeep, Siraj, and Khaleel.
#5 Lucknow Supergiants
Players in the Indian Squad: KL Rahul (ODIs) and Ravi Bishnoi (T20Is).
KL Rahul returns to the national side for the first time since his injury during the Test series against England early this year after getting overlooked for the T20 World Cup. It remains to be seen his role in the ODI side after Pant's return, and if he could be played as a pure batter with Pant taking over as the gloveman.
Ravi Bishnoi is a crucial part of India's T20I side going forward and the leg-spinner holds on to his spot in the team.
#6 Mumbai Indians
Players in the Indian Squad: Rohit Sharma (ODIs), Suryakumar Yadav (T20Is), and Hardik Pandya (T20Is).
Rohit Sharma has made himself available for the Sri Lanka ODI tour, making it his first captaincy assignment under new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Suryakumar Yadav, meanwhile, has been named as India's T20I captain for the Sri Lanka tour, with Hardik Pandya's fitness issues hindering him from being considered for the leadership positions.
Both SKY and Hardik only find themselves in the T20I squad, with Hardik opting out of the ODIs.
#7 Punjab Kings
Players in the Indian Squad: Arshdeep Singh (T20Is and ODIs).
Arshdeep Singh has quickly cemented his place in the Indian squad in white-ball cricket, and his strong showing in the T20 World Cup has earned him plenty of plaudits.
The left-arm quick is a part of both the T20I and ODI squads for India and is set to play a pivotal role for them in the seam-bowling department.
#8 Rajasthan Royals
Players in the Indian Squad: Yashasvi Jaiswal (T20Is), Riyan Parag (T20Is and ODIs), and Sanju Samson (T20Is).
After receiving his maiden India cap in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, Riyan Parag has now got his first ODI call-up, with the batting all-rounder a part of India's ODI set-up alongside Washington Sundar.
RR captain Sanju Samson seems to have been backed for the future in T20I cricket and he retains his place in the T20I side alongside the in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal.
#9 Royal Challengers Bangalore
Players in the Indian Squad: Virat Kohli (ODIs) and Mohammed Siraj (T20Is and ODIs).
Virat Kohli joins Rohit Sharma in returning to the side for the three ODIs and all eyes will undoubtedly be on India's No. 3 as he plays his first ODI match since the defeat to Australia in last year's ODI World Cup final.
Mohammed Siraj, meanwhile, is set to be the leader of India's pace attack in both formats in Jasprit Bumrah's absence.
#10 Sunrisers Hyderabad
Players in the Indian Squad: Washington Sundar (T20Is and ODIs).
India has always rated Washington Sundar highly, and with the all-rounder fully fit and in good form, he has been picked in both the T20I and ODI squads, ahead of the likes of Ravindra Jadeja.
It will be interesting to see if he gets the nod over Axar Patel or if both players are accommodated in the playing XI.
