Irani Cup 2016: Jaydev Unadkat and Jayant Yadav help ROI fight back

Unadkat was devastating in his spell, claiming 3/16

Inspired bowling by Jaydev Unadkat and Jayant Yadav brought back Rest of India(ROI) in the Irani Cup 2016. The duo shared 7 wickets between them to bundle out Mumbai for a paltry 182. ROI showed great resilience with the bat in their second innings to reach 100/1 at stumps on Day 4, 380 runs adrift of their target.

While the first three days were completely dominated by Mumbai, Day 4 saw ROI clawing back into the match through their bowling.

Starting the day at 2/1, Mumbai lost in-form batsman Shreyas Iyer for a duck in the very first over of the day. First innings centurions Jay Bista and Suryakumar Yadav tried to steady the ship but Bista was dismissed for an attacking 38 by Unadkat. Krishna Das accounted for skipper Aditya Tare(6) to leave Mumbai reeling at 62/4.

Yadav and Siddesh Lad stitched a 52-run stand before Jayant got better of Suryakumar Yadav, thereby missing his deserved half-century by a single run. Lad repeated his first innings temperament to notch up a crucial 60, ensuring Mumbai cross 160. The dominance of ROI’s bowling showed as only 4 batsmen could reach double digit scores.

Abhishek Nayar again failed with the bat and the lower order could not contribute much as they folded up for 182 in 51.2 overs. For ROI Yadav picked 4 wickets for 93 whereas Unadkat had 3 in his kitty giving just 16 runs in his 11 overs. Stuart Binny polished off the tail picking 2 wickets.

ROI start their second innings well

In pursuit of a gigantic 480-run target, ROI started off well with Faiz Fazal and Srikar Bharat seeing off the new ball without any issues. When their partnership started to look dominating the Mumbai attack, Bharat played a loose shot to be dismissed by Iqbal Abdullah for 42. Fazal was joined by Bengal’s Sudip Chatterjee and the duo ensured ROI ended the day of play without further hiccups. At stumps, Fazal was unbeaten on 41 while Chatterjee will resume from 17.

ROI will have their task cut out tomorrow, the final day, to try and force a draw. Mumbai bowlers, on the other hand, will hope for a better performance and will look to skittle out the ROI batting line-up for an outright victory.

Match Summary: Mumbai (1st Inn) 603 all out; ROI (1st Inn) 306 all out; Mumbai (2nd Inn) 182 all out- Siddesh Lad 60, Jayant Yadav 4/93, Jaydev Unadkat 3/16; ROI (2nd Inn) 100/1 (Stumps-Day 4)-Faiz Fazal 41*, Srikar Bharat 42
