Ireland vs Netherlands, Match 5: Oman Quadrangular Series 2019 | Preview & Playing XI
The Oman Quadrangular Series reaches it's business end with the Netherlands and Ireland set to face each other in the fifth fixture of the 2019 tournament. Meanwhile, the Dutch have beaten the Irish men in their last five outings and looks with the momentum they have, and one may expect it to be an electrifying encounter for the fans.
Netherlands
The Dutch continued from where they left against Scotland and dominated Oman throughout the game to secure a comfortable eight-wicket win.
Batting
Tobias Visee has been phenomenal in this series and has scored 71 and 44 against Scotland and Oman respectively. The opener looks set for another big knock here. While Ryan ten Doeschate and Stephen Myburgh also came into fore in the previous T20 International fixture against Oman, where Ryan scored 32 runs from just 19 deliveries, Myburgh played a steady knock of 34. Meanwhile, Ben Cooper made a strong statement on his return to the squad and amassed unbeaten 34-ball 50 to get the team over the victory line and a similar performance against Ireland will get their hands on series title.
Bowling
Van der Merwe was pick of the lot in previous game claiming 2/14 in his five overs, and it'll be essential that he comes out with a similar show against Ireland. While Fred Klaassen and Shane Snater too got a slice of wicket and these two along with van der Gugten will be expected to put their best and make things tough for Ireland.
Expected Playing XI
Pieter Seelaar (C), Ben Cooper, Ryan ten Doeschate, Scott Edwards, Tobias Visee, Max O'Dowd, Stephan Myburgh, Roelof van der Merwe, Timm van der Gugten, Shane Snater, and Fred Klaassen.
Ireland
Unlike, ODIs the Irish have been quite inconsistent in the shortest format and once against failed against the Scots. Further, their previous record against Dutch too doesn't support their cause. From their perspective, they must defeat the Dutch by a heavy margin as a nominal win won't guarantee them series title due to their low run rate.
Batting
Skipper Paul Stirling registered his second consecutive 50 of the tournament, while he shared a 115-run opening stand with Kevin O'Brien (65 runs from 37 balls) to set the platform for the team. But all their good work at the top was undone by the middle, who tumbled against the Scots and the skipper will need them to show some grit against the Dutch in their last fixture.
Bowling
Shane Getkate picked two wickets against the Scots, while Simi Singh was pick of the lot in tournament opener, and rattled the Oman middle order and these two will be expected to clinch few early wickets to rattle down the Dutch innings. While Peter Chase has taken a wicket in both outings, and he alongside Boyd Rankin will be expected to pinch few blows to the opponents.
Expected Playing XI
Paul Stirling (C), Kevin O'Brien, Andrew Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker, Simi Singh, Shane Getkate, Boyd Rankin, Stuart Poynter, George Dockrell, Joshua Little and Peter Chase.
