Irfan Pathan has another chapter to write, says Fleming

Irfan was bought by CSK in this year’s auction

Former New Zealand captain and current coach of the Chennai Super Kings, Stephen Fleming firmly believes in Irfan Pathan’s abilities and says he has another chapter left to write in his cricketing career. The left-arm swing bowler whose career has been plagued by poor form and injuries in the last few years was bought by the Chennai-based franchise in the auction this year.

He adds depth to their batting order which already looks very strong and in all likelihood might bowl with the new ball. "Irfan is not yet at that level of his career and he has got another chapter to write," Fleming told the IPL’s official website.

"What I bank on is the MS Dhoni and Raina factor. They can get the best out of players. I like Irfan's skills and his attitude, and fitness is one thing we will work hard on. I like how he will fit into our side and he is a good addition for us."

"Irfan has the skills we were looking at - an all-rounder down the order who bowls left-arm seam, which we like," he said. "We are on a bit of a train in buying older players like Ashish Nehra and Mike Hussey. People focus on youth but we like experience because of the knowledge they can pass on," he said.

But for now, his debut for CSK has to wait as he did not play in their first match tonight against the Delhi Daredevils due to a minor injury.
