Irfan Pathan determined to be a part of the 2015 Indian World Cup squad
When Irfan Pathan burst onto the scene in 2003 during India’s tour of Australia, many believed that India had finally found a successor to the great Kapil Dev. However, with the reoccurring injuries & the loss of form, the Baroda paceman has found himself in and out of the Indian side. That does not seem to have deterred the 29-year old as he has his sights firmly fixed on making it to the Indian squad for the 2015 World Cup in Australia & New Zealand.
“With the tournament a year away, I want to regain my position in Indian team. I’ll be playing more and more domestic games, and I’m sure my hard work will pay off,” said Irfan in an interview to Times Of India.
Irfan, who has been playing as a specialist batsman for Baroda in this year’s Ranji Trophy, said that he had been rigorously following the training regime designed for him by his physio.
“I am back among runs, and now the next target is to start bowling regularly. I have to be completely match-fit in the next few weeks and I am working hard for that,” Irfan said.
“I am happy with the way I have batted, and it’s really been a morale booster for me. Once I start bowling regularly, things would only get better,” he added.
Irfan has had a stop-start career with the national team but doesn’t want to dwell on the past. The all-rounder says that it is good that there is an increased competition to get into the Indian side.
Irfan, who is yet to play a World Cup game, is keen on improving his fitness & looks determined to make a mark in cricket’s biggest event.
The 29-year-old concluded by saying: “I want to improve on my fitness level, and that’s going to be the key to success. I will be visiting the NCA again to reassess the fitness level, and if I’m fit, results will come automatically.”
