Is Umesh Yadav the solution to the great Indian bowling dilemma?

A clear writing is on the wall. The current Indian bowling line up is simply not good enough! A lot of undue chances have been given to Ishant Sharma. He has been playing for about 8 years now but simply failed to give the results! Many of the fans are now questioning his inclusion in the team India. It is really amazing that when we have got a suitable replacement readily available in the form of Umesh Yadav, why we are carrying a burden?

Yadav is young. He is hard working. He seems committed and willing to deliver. I am a believer and I do think that if given exposure on a regular basis, he will fill the void.

The most important factor which goes in his favor is that he has got a tremendous understanding with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. They really complement each other on the crease and always try to take charge from the parallel ends. Yadav’s bowling action is quite impressive. Sometimes, like any other bowler, he loses his line and length, but that can happen to any young bowler. He will definitely improve with the passage of time and as he gains more experience.

The only area of improvement is to maintain his speed and tempo even when he is not getting a wicket. Many of the followers have noticed that whenever he gets a break, there appears to be an edge in his bowling.

All he has got to do is to remain cool and contented in every situation. In an effort to prove his utility, at times he does not sustain the desired length and also reduces his speed. As a result of lost focus he gives more runs. This is a very vicious circle and he will have to learn to cope up with the situation.

Also, as the fans of the game in this cricket mad country, we usually tend to expect instant results. In this ever increasing competitive world of cricket, especially in the limited over games, even the captain is hard pressed and compelled to give results. He has to prevent the opposition batsmen from building a strong foundation, and in this attempt he quickly needs to rotate the bowlers. Recently, this is what was happening with Umesh Yadav. Once a bowler, especially a new bowler, is rotated, he tends to lose his rhythm and morale.

Even otherwise, team India does not have many options. Hopefully once Yadav is able to strike back, he will regain his confidence and self-esteem.
