Ishant Sharma to be announced as new vice-captain of Indian Test Cricket Team

Ishant Sharma, veteran of 61 Test matches, is now the most senior in the Indian team

After the retirement of former captain MS Dhoni, BCCI selected Virat Kohli as new Indian cricket team captain in Tests. Due to this promotion for Kohli, the vice captain post is currently lying vacant.

Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ishant Sharma were the main candidates who were being thought to be favourites for the position. Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin are the more senior, and so have an edge over Rahane.

Yesterday however, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, another fast bowler in the team, released a picture featuring him with Ishant Sharma, the caption being “Congrats Ishant Sharma for getting promoted as the Vice Captain of Indian Test cricket team!.”

After Dhoni’s retirement from Tests, Ishant now becomes India’s most experienced player. It is understood that BCCI will be announcing the new vice captain before the fourth Test match between India and Australia begins.

We can expect the official announcement in the next two or three days.
