ISL 2017/18: FC Goa's Spanish striker Adrian Colunga falls out of favour with coach
What's the story?
Spanish footballer Adrian Colunga is finding it hard to make it into the playing XI for FC Goa in the ongoing season of the Indian Super League (ISL). The former Getafe striker has featured in only two matches in the tournament so far.
Sources close to Sportskeeda have revealed that the forward has fallen out of favour with coach Sergio Lobera. However, when asked about the situation, Lobera refused to comment saying that it was his tactical decision.
In case you didn't know...
Adrian Colunga has played for various European clubs, but the highlight of his career was playing in the La Liga for four seasons from 2010 to 2014. Before setting foot on Indian soil, he was playing for the Cyprus-based club Anorthosis Famagusta.
The heart of the matter
Colunga has played a total of 53 minutes this season. During FC Goa’s clash against the Delhi Dynamos, he was brought in as a substitute and went on to score in the 5-1 win. The last time he took the field was against FC Pune City on December 23 last year.
The former Las Palmas player isn’t being included in the plans of FC Goa coach Sergio Lobera and he refuses to explain why he left out the foreigner.
What's next?
FC Goa is currently at the fourth spot in the Indian Super League table and is looking good for a knockout place finish. They still have more than a week left for their next match against Kerala Blasters FC.
Author's take
The Goa-based has performed moderately well in the ISL season so far and the coach is doing a fair job. If Lobera feels that the inclusion of Adrian Colunga may hamper the balance of the team, then he should be given the liberty to make his own decisions for the sake of the club.
