“It was nice to get some runs today, but she was sleeping” – When Rohit Sharma dedicated an IPL fifty to daughter Samaira
Team India's Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma once dedicated a half-century to his daughter Samaira by doing a special celebration. The incident took place in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Sharma, who was still the MI skipper at the time, dazzled fans with an unbeaten 55-run knock to help his team secure a nine-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The star opener celebrated his fifty by cradling his bat.
MI chased down the 134-run target in just 16.1 overs. With the victory, the Rohit Sharma-led side finished as the table-toppers of the league stage in IPL 2019.
Speaking about the knock, he mentioned that his daughter had been coming to watch his matches but he failed to score big runs in those games. Sharma added that while he managed to hit a half-century this time, Samaira didn't witness it as she was asleep.
Sharma said in the post-match presentation:
"My daughter has been coming here every day to watch me play but I didn't get a lot of runs earlier. It was nice to get some runs today but she was sleeping!"
It is worth mentioning that MI eked out a thrilling one-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2019 season to clinch their fourth IPL title.
