Jimmy Neesham posts series of hilarious and insightful tweets on the Mankad controversy
West Indies went through to the quarter-finals of the ICC Under-19 World Cup in controversial circumstances as they won by two runs by Mankading the final Zimbabwe batsmen. Whenever something big happens, New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham is always on hand to deliver his verdict on Twitter.
So it was no surprise to see him tweet about the incident and respond to queries and angry tirades, fans directed at him after his initial tweet. Here is the entire account of what he tweeted and his response to questions that ranged from the curious to the ridiculous.
After watching the incident, where West Indian bowler Keemo Paul Mankad Richard Ngarava, who was only backing up slightly, Neesham tweeted this:
I thought the non-striker could leave his crease as soon as the bowler's back foot landed. Has that rule changed?

When another fan wondered whether there was a warning, Neesham had similar queries:
Yea that too. Was there a warning or not? https://t.co/9N1O8Nw9Xo

When a fan sent an angry and scathing tweet, calling Scott Styris and Jimmy Neesham hypocrites, the 25-year-old showed zen-like calmness and had this to say in response:
You seem angry. It's going to be ok it's just a game. https://t.co/T49zhKk6W7

When someone told him that this was the first time the batsman had backed up and that there was no warning provided before mankading, Neesham tweeted:
That's strange. If there was no warning and the batsman wasn't even backing up miles then that's poor from bowler. https://t.co/gXITArnYIb

When fans started a blatantly ridiculous argument about bowlers over-stepping, run-outs and started making absurd comparisons, Neesham put them to their rightful place.
Don't you dare bring your straw man arguments into our palace of learned scholars. https://t.co/WdDtMVPvX6

Dumb and irrelevant. Move along. https://t.co/VpfuCwgOqi

When a supporter was trying to make the complicated issue of mankading seem so simple, Neesham was simply shocked:
I actually real life face-palmed reading this. Trying to make a complex issue like this black and white won't work. https://t.co/XJrhjMCcP9
— Jimmy Neesham (@JimmyNeesh) February 3, 2016
Then he also went on to explain when a Mankad is fine and when it is not:
Yes. A mankad is a last resort to stop a batsman who is blatantly cheating. It is NOT a dismissal to aim for. https://t.co/ulaX56Bb8y

He eventually finished with this tweet, tired of all the absurd comparisons:
If one more person tweets me this ridiculous comparison I might lose my mind. https://t.co/ziRgxsYo8B
