The Western Australian Warriors head to Drummoyne Oval for their first away game of the JLT One Day Cup 2017. The Warriors have looked virtually unstoppable in their three games so far, notching up wins against New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
Led by talismanic skipper Mitchell Marsh, the Warriors have clicked in all three departments. The top order looks rock solid with the presence of evergreen 37-year-old Michael Klinger and Aussie Ashes hopeful Shaun Marsh. Marsh is the second leading run-scorer in the tournament so far with 282 runs, just two behind New South Wales' Nic Maddinson. He has thrived on the bounce on offer at Perth, notching up two half-centuries and a century in his three games.
The middle order looks no less potent with hard-hitting Cameron Bancroft, ever harder-hitting Mitchell Marsh and Ashton Turner slotting in at 3, 4 and 5.
The Bulls though have a pretty impressive bowling attack with veterans Michael Neser and Ben Cutting leading the line alongside young leggie Mitchell Swepson and Doggett. Queensland have crossed 280 in two of the three games so far and that is mainly due to the Khawaja-Renshaw-Burns trio at the top. They have also gotten useful contributions out of Labuschagne and Peirson. If the top order can get them off to a good start, Cutting can cut loose at the death.
The Oval is not expected to offer a run-fest, however, with proper application, 300 is a possibility. Despite the lack of pace, both teams are still expected to play just the lone spinner.
Nothing short of a win would do for the Bulls as they look to put themselves in contention for a spot in the finals, however, with the firepower the Warriors possess, it is going to be a pretty tough task for them.
Probable XI
Queensland Bulls: Matt Renshaw, Usman Khawaja, Joe Burns, Marnus Labuschagne, Jimmy Peirson, Ben Cutting, Jack Wildermuth, Michael Neser, Mitchell Swepson, Cameron Gannon, Brendan Doggett
Western Australia: Shaun Marsh, Michael Klinger, Cameron Bancroft, Mitchell Marsh, Hilton Cartwright, Ashton Turner, D'Arcy Short, Jhye Richardson, Matthew Kelly, Simon Mackin, David Moody
Pitch and weather
The game will be played at the Drummoyne Oval where the pitch is expected to be slow and low, quite unlike the WACA where the Warriors thrive. They will need to adapt and quickly against a Bulls side that boast quite a formidable bowling attack.
"Drummoyne Oval is very different to the WACA Ground; the outfield is slow and so it can be hard to score fours, but that's all part of the adaptation and if we have those partnerships we'll be in a good place," said Western Australia keeper Cameron Bancroft.
Meanwhile, coming to the weather, it is expected to be quite a muggy day with rain unlikely to play spoilsport during any part of the match. However, scattered showers are expected early in the day, meaning the team winning the toss could look to bowl and make use of the nip on offer.
