Jonathan Trott to return to cricket on April 1st
Jonathan Trott, who has been out of international and domestic cricket since November due to a stress-related illness is set to return, as he will make his comeback in the pre-season fixture of Warwickshire against Gloucestershire at Edgbaston on 1st April.
Trott returned home from Australia immediately after the conclusion of the first Test in Brisbane, and the chairman of Trott’s 2014 benefit committee, Dennis Amiss had recently said that the England No. 3 is expecting to return in April, before Warwickshire confirmed his involvement in the two-day friendly.
Trott was set to miss out on the Barbados tour of Warwickshire, which had led to questions raised about his rehabilitation, although he is set to link up with his team-mates once they return from the Barbados tour on the 25th of March. He is set tot take part in Warwickshire’s first-class clashes against Gloucestershire and Oxford MCCu, the latter scheduled to be held between 7-9 April.
“I’ve been overwhelmed with the kind messages of support from players, coaches and fans over the last few months, and I’m really looking forward to joining up with Warwickshire ahead of the new season,” Trott said.
“We’ve got a strong squad that’s capable of challenging for trophies in all competitions, and I’m determined to play a big role and hopefully contribute to more success for the Bears in 2014 and beyond.”
During the absence of Trott, England have failed to fill in the vacant No.3 sport where the batsman averages 46.45 in Tests and above 50 in ODIs. If Trott can make good of the warm-up matches and prove his form and mental readiness, then he can take part in next ODI match against Scotland on 9th May, which is followed by the visit of Sri Lanka.
Dougie Brown, Warwickshire’s director of cricket, said: “Everyone at Edgbaston will be thrilled to see Jonathan return to training after the club’s pre-season tour of Barbados, and take to the field at Edgbaston in the 2014 season. Having met recently, he looks in great shape and is certainly hungry to score plenty of runs for Warwickshire. He’s been a crucial member of the England set-up for nearly five years and I am certain he will be back as England’s number three in the near future.”
