Jonty Rhodes reveals Suresh Raina and four others as all-time best fielders
South African veteran, Jonty Rhodes, is arguably one of the best ever fielder cricketing world has ever seen. He is known for his brilliant fielding skills and stunning catches. He came into the limelight after his famous run out of Inzamam during the 1992 World Cup. Since then, he has taken many brilliant catches and affected countless run outs.
Talking to the ICC, Jonty Rhodes named his top-five fielders in the world.
He picked Andrew Symonds from Australia and also rated him as one of the best who could field very well both inside and outside the circle.
Next up on the list is his teammate Herschelle Gibbs. He also said he enjoyed fielding with him at backward point. Gibbs has taken 210 catches for South Africa. He had a brilliant partnership in his early days with Jonty Rhodes at backward point. Batsmen found it really hard to pierce the gap between these two.
Paul Collingwood from England was the third name on the list. Just like Jonty, the Englishman also fielded at backward point and took some blinders.
The South African star AB de Villiers was his fourth pick. When Rhodes was the fielding coach for South Africa, he used to get upset when AB put on the keeping gloves, as he wanted him on the outfield. On the other hand, AB brought balance to the team by keeping the wickets. But, of course, just like Jonty, most of us missed him as a fielder.
Finally, he named the Indian star Suresh Raina as one of his favorite fielders. He also revealed that it's hard to do fielding in India with less grass, but Raina had been brilliant for the country, both in the slips and the outfield.
