Josh Hazlewood to miss IPL 2015 due to fear of fatigue
Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has pulled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 as he doesn’t want to suffer from fatigue amidst a gruelling schedule. Over the last 5 months, Hazlewood has been part of Australian teams that have played non-stop cricket and Cricket Australia (CA) sees the next couple of months as the perfect time for him to have a break.
Hazlewood made a big impact in the ODI series against South Africa last November, inspiring the hosts to a 4-1 triumph. He followed that up with an impressive showing in his debut Test match against India and then was one of the stars of Australia’s World Cup-winning campaign.
The 24-year-old did not feature in last night’s match, where the Mumbai Indians were comprehensively defeated by defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
“Josh's workload has changed significantly since he first began attending the IPL. The IPL is the players leave period and in Josh's case it was deemed that not playing was the best use of that time in the lead up to a busy winter. This was agreed to with the IPL following discussions at the end of the Test Series,” said Pat Howard, CA’s General Manager of Team Performance.
Australia play West Indies in an away tour which is scheduled for June. That will be followed by a 5-Test series against England where the Kangaroos will attempt to retain the Ashes.
