South Africa's Jean-Paul Duminy smashed 37 runs in an over playing for Cape Cobras against the Knights in the country's List-A competition - Momentum one-day cup. Chasing a target of 240 runs set by the Knights, Cobras were cruising at 208/2 after 36 overs when Duminy decided to take matters into his own hands.

Leg-spinner Eddie Leie, bowling the 37th over, was smashed for four consecutive sixes on the first four deliveries of the over. The fifth delivery, however, went for just a couple of runs which meant JP couldn't make it to an elite list of players who hit six maximums in an over.

Leie then made the mistake of bowling a no-ball which the left-hander smacked for a boundary which left his team a run away from the victory. Duminy, though, had his mind made up and he slammed a six off the last delivery of the over to see his side through and register himself in the record books. He ultimately finished with 70 runs off 37 balls.

With this 37-run over, the South African is now placed second on the list of batsmen who've scored the most number of runs in an over in List-A cricket. Only Zimbabwe's Elton Chigumbura has scored more runs in an over. Chigumbura achieved the feat in the 2013 edition of Dhaka Premier League when he slammed Bangladesh's Alauddin Babu for 39 runs.

Duminy opened up after the knock and revealed that he was looking to send all the six deliveries past the rope.

"It is not every day you get the opportunity, so of course I was trying to go for the six sixes in an over," Duminy said.

"I initially thought it was all about the bonus point. I looked up at the scoreboard and we needed 35 with four overs still to go to get the bonus point, so I just decided to take Eddie on. I was striking the ball really cleanly, and when the first two went for six, I figured I might as well give it a full go now because regardless whether I get out we would still have secured the bonus point. It was enjoyable."
