Jacques Kallis better than Sachin Tendulkar: Gautam Gambhir
In conversation with NNIS Sports, Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir was asked about his opinion on the two of the greatest cricketers of all time, India’s Sachin Tendulkar and South Africa’s Jacques Kallis who had announced their retirement.
The Delhi-born batsman praised both of the legends, but he rated Kallis better based on statistics and records.
When asked whether the Indian team will be facing difficulties to cope without Sachin Tendulkar, Gambhir said: “Not at all. I think life moves on. Everything moves on. I think there has been so many legends in the past who have past through retiring, still cricket moved on, teams moved on. I think we should admire what Sachin has done for 22 years for Indian cricket. I think he has given us so much of happiness, and so much of great moments to cherish.”
“So, we should cherish that rather than thinking that what’s going to happen that he has retired now. I think whatever decision he has taken I think we should all hope that he is happy and remains happy in future as well. And one thing is that cricket moves on, teams move on. And hopefully whoever gets selected for India end up winning games for India,” he added.
“No, I think statistically if you see from the records point of view, he (Kallis) is the greatest player this world has seen. And, record-wise, he is the best player who has played this game,” said Gambhir when asked who is the better player between Kallis and Sachin.
He also went on to heap praises on the other greats like Australia’s Ricky Ponting, India’s Rahul Dravid and West Indies’ Brian Lara, who Gambhir feels have their “own impact” on the game.
