Kevin Pietersen could make £3m in IPL: Lalit Modi
Ex-IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has deemed Kevin Pietersen‘s sacking from the English squad as a blessing in disguise for the Indian league.
“It is England’s loss and the IPL’s gain. He could go upwards of £2.5-3m,” said Lalit Modi, while responding to a related question in a radio interview.
Kevin Pietersen now carries the status of a free agent after being chucked out of the England squad for his alleged differences with the captain Alastair Cook.
The England batsman, who represented Delhi Daredevils in IPL6, has also been a part of the now defunct Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Modi sounded expectant for Pietersen, pretty high on the desirable players’ list of most teams, as he is now available to play the full season.
“I think, as far as the franchises are concerned, this is like a God-sent gift.”
“Every IPL team owner’s dream was to get Kevin Pietersen to be playing full-time, to be available for the whole season, but he had to make time for the national team, rightly so.
“But now that he will be available for the whole time I think it will be England’s loss and the IPL’s gain.”, Modi added.
Modi had words of heavy praise for the South African born. “Kevin Pietersen is one of the world’s best players, without any doubt, as far as Twenty20 is concerned, and other forms of the game,” he said.
