Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Strauss appear to bury the hatchet during celebrity golf event
One of the most spectacular falling outs between teammates in recent history has been between former England teammates Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Strauss, but on proof of what was seen at a celebrity golf event this week, their enmity is behind them.
The root of their dispute coming out in the public can be traced back to 2012, when Pietersen had texted members of the South African team in disparaging terms about Strauss. The latter was once heard referring to KP as a ‘c***’ on air while doing commentary duty. In 2015, as KP aimed to break back in the England team, it was Strauss, newly convened Director of ECB, who froze him out.
On Wednesday, however, it was all smiles at the BMW PGA Celebrity Pro-Am at Wentworth.
KP and Strauss were not the only known faces at the event. It was also graced by several other stars, including Michael Vaughan, Mike Tindall, Ian Wright, Brian Lara, AP McCoy, Paul Scholes, Peter Schmeichel, Robbie Fowler, Alan Hansen, Tom Chaplin of Keane and Ronan Keating of Boyzone.
Whether this burying of the hatchet can spell a brighter future for KP, who had recently said he was open to representing South Africa if the England door continued to be shut on him, only time can tell. Could this spell a new future for the England discard? Maybe not, but this was an interesting moment between the two teammates-turned-foes.
