Kevin Pietersen back in English squad
Kevin Pietersen has been recalled to England‘s squad for the forthcoming tour of India, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced.
The South Africa born English batsman was initially overlooked thanks to the controversy between him and Andrew Strauss. Pietersen was dropped for the third Test against South Africa in August with allegations that he sent text messages to opposing players criticizing his then captain Andrew Strauss. He retired from all forms of cricket and went to do a stint with commentary on television. He returned to cricket with the Champions League T20 for the Delhi Daredevils.
A statement from the ECB read: “The England selectors today announced that Kevin Pietersen has been added to the Test squad for the forthcoming tour of India.
“The decision was made after Kevin Pietersen met with Andy Flower, Alastair Cook and a number of other senior players and members of England team management in Oxford earlier this week.”
ECB Managing Director – England Cricket, Hugh Morris added: “We were keen that Kevin should hold a series of face-to-face meetings with team management and senior players before the Test squad departs for the UAE and India next week.
Kevin Pietersen is currently playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the Champions League T20 in South Africa.
