Kevin Pietersen, James Anderson and Graeme Swann rested for ODI series vs Australia

Pietersen will be rested along with Anderson and Swann for the ODI and T20 series vs Australia

The three players will not be involved in the five one-day internationals and three Twenty20s against Australia that will follow the Ashes series.

Coach Andy Flower feels that the players need to rest and prepare for a busy schedule leading up to the 2015 World cup.

“Our players that play all three forms of the game cannot play constantly 12 months of the year,” Flower said to The Daily Telegraph. “Guys like Anderson and Pietersen are in their early 30s now and prized assets, and we need to look after our prized assets.

“From a physical perspective they are always dealing with various niggles and sometimes they need to be taken out of competition.”

Alastair Cook will be the captain of England for the ODI series while Stuart Broad continues to captain the Twenty20 side.

England ODI squad: Cook (c), Ballance, Bell, Bopara, Bresnan, Briggs, Broad, Buttler (wk), Carberry, Finn, Jordan, Morgan, Rankin, Root, Stokes, Tredwell.

England T20I squad: Stuart Broad (captain), Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, Jos Buttler, Jade Dernbach, Steve Finn, Alex Hales, Michael Lumb, Eoin Morgan, Boyd Rankin, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Tredwell, Luke Wright.
