Kevin Pietersen suffers injury scare ahead of IPL 7
With the 7th season of the Indian Premier League just 3 days away, Delhi Daredevils have suffered a scare with their captain and star batsman Kevin Pietersen reportedly nursing a finger injury, which might keep him out of the initial stages of the tournament.
The Times of India quoted a Delhi Daredevils source as saying, “KP has a fractured finger. That is why he isn’t taking an active part in the drills. A well-known doctor has been called to attend on him but he will only meet him in the UAE. He is supposed to be treated there so he can recover faster and take part in the first match. But he is certainly racing against time. It could be touch and go for the first couple of matches.”
Although Pietersen is present with the Delhi Daredevils squad, who are training at the Palam Air Force ground in New Delhi since Wednesday, he has not batted a lot in the nets and had heavy strapping on the ring and the little fingers of his right hand.
Pietersen himself has played down the reports of the injury and said: “It’s a niggle, but I am wearing the gear to make sure I don’t hurt it any further while shaking hands.”
After missing out on two full seasons of the IPL in the past due to injuries and having no national duties to look forward to this time around, Pietersen will be hoping to give his 100% to the completely new Delhi Daredevils team and help them have a good tournament.
The Delhi Daredevils play their first match in IPL7 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Sharjah, on April 17.
