Kevin Pietersen wanted Alastair Cook to be stripped of captaincy

Kevin Pietersen

Former England international Kevin Pietersen, who was recently axed by the ECB following his strained relationships with the senior players and coaching staff, had doubts about Alastair Cook‘s captaincy as well as wicketkeeper Matt Prior’s presence in the squad, according to Dailymail.

Pietersen was sceptical about Flower’s management and methods, and he made no bones about his dissatisfaction during the players’ only meeting after the fourth Test in Melbourne in the disastrous Ashes series, which they lost 5-0.

Pietersen had questions over Cook’s captaincy and tactical approach. He believed that Matt Prior was not worth his place and shared his views with most of his colleagues on the tour. Furthermore, it is understood that he had little time for batting coach Graham Gooch, if reports from Dailymail are to be believed.

The scenario is somewhat similar to the past when Peter Moores was sacked in the winter of 2008-09. KP had a fallout with him and revealed that it was important for Moores’ removal for the good of English cricket.
