Kings XI Punjab's Glenn Maxwell reveals the full story behind his IPL injury
Glenn Maxwell has revealed that he was concerned over the injury that was picked up during the 2016 version of the IPL. Speaking to Australian Associated Press, the dynamic batsman also looked back at Kings XI Punjab’s dismal season.
Joining a long list of fellow Australian players exiting the tournament due to various injuries, Maxwell pulled out with a side strain. The 27-year-old said that the fitness issue cropped up during a practice session.
Maxwell affirmed, “I was slog sweeping in the nets. I felt it go then got through the next game. I tried to scrape a few games together where I didn't have to bat too much and fielded in low-intensity areas. I thought it had died down. But, it came back to bite me.”

However, Maxwell believed that the correct call was taken. The right-hander stated, “That last game, I knew it was gone. It was disappointing to leave the tournament early. But in terms of the bigger picture, it was the right decision to go home.”
He added, “I was a bit nervous when I first did the injury in India. I was a bit worried about whether they'd take me to the Caribbean if I was not hundred percent before the series started.“
Poor finish for the Kings XI
Reflecting on Kings XI Punjab’s wooden spoon finish in the competition, the all-rounder claimed, “I probably did not get the results that everyone was expecting. But, I actually felt like I was playing well. We just could not win the close games and could not win crucial moments which certainly added to the frustration of leaving early.“
Looking ahead to the Tri-Series also involving West Indies and South Africa, Maxwell hoped, “I feel like I'm ready to go and hopefully I'll be ready for that first game. That's going to be my biggest challenge – To try and get ready for the first one. But if not that game, I should be right for the rest of the tournament.“
Australia’s first match in the upcoming series has been scheduled against the hosts at the Providence Stadium on Sunday.
