Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders (RCB vs KKR) Head to Head in IPL, Past Battles to watch

Gautam Gambhir needs to lead from the front again

The 30th match of the IPL will see the Kolkata Knight Riders battle it out against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This is going to be the repeat of the very first match of the first season of IPL in 2008 where Brendon McCullum literally tore apart the RCB bowling line up with an innings of 158 runs. This, though, will be the first time these two teams will square off against each other this season. Out of 16 times, these two teams have played against each other, they have each won eight games each. Interestingly, though, all the 16 games have been played in the group stages of the tournament and they have never faced each other in a playoff game.

The previous two encounters during the last season were won by RCB, but this year the equation looks different. KKR look a complete side (for most of the season) having perfect balance in both the batting and bowling departments and are placed at number 4 on the points table. RCB has been in a great batting form but the lack of quality bowlers has seen them losing, even after mounting big scores. That leaves them languishing seventh in the Table.

Here is telescopic look at their best games against each other

RCB vs KKR Past battles

  • Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers (Bangalore) 2nd May 2015: KKR batted first in a rain curtailed match and scored 111/4 in 10 overs. Andre Russell provided the impetus to the innings by scoring 45 runs off just 17 balls. RCB though did not have too much trouble chasing it down. Gayle, Kohli, and Mandeep all contributed to hand the team a victory by 7 wickets. Mandeep for his 45 runs off 18 balls was adjudged the Man of the Match.
  • Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers (Kolkata) 11th April 2015:  It was one of those days where Chris Gayle single-handedly took the game away from the opposition. Chasing a total of 177 runs set by KKR, Gayle put a Man of the Match performance with a swashbuckling 96 off just 56 balls. RCB won the match by 3 wickets with an over to spare.
  • Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers (Kolkata) 22nd May 2014: KKR notched up a huge score of 195 runs thanks to the innings of Robin Uthappa. He scored 83 runs off 51 balls. Gayle fell early and none of the other batsmen could muster anything notable. KKR won the match by 30 runs.
  • Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers (Sharjah) 24th April 2014: This was one of THE low scoring thrillers in the tournament. Batting first, KKR set up a modest target of 151 runs for RCB to win. RCB looked all in control of the match till came a moment of brilliance from KKR’s fielding. Chris Lynn took a breathtaking catch at the mid-wicket boundary to remove AB De Villiers at a crucial stage in the game. Ultimately KKR clinched a last ball thriller to win by 2 runs.
