KL Rahul enjoys batting with Test skipper Virat Kohli
Indian emerging star KL Rahul has spoken about his relationship with the Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli and says he enjoys batting with his former under-19 captain, reports TOI. The youngster also said that he gets to learn quiet a lot from Kohli.
”It's a lot of fun batting with Virat. I enjoy having him around. He brings positivity in the team and the way he approaches each game is wonderful. I get to learn a lot from it. I've been a great admirer of his batting," he remarked.
The 23-year old has had a decent series against Sri Lanka recently, which included a fine century in the second Test in Colombo. However, his place in the playing XI is still under doubt, due to the formidable opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay, Rahul might have to wait for a while before he gets to cement his place in the squad.
The upcoming series against South Africa will offer a chance for Rahul to once again prove himself, provided he is included in the final XI. But Rahul remains optimistic and says he’s excited to face the mighty Proteas. "I'm looking forward to playing these guys. They are currently the best bowlers and the best bowling unit in the world. It would be exciting and it's also going to be a very challenging series. I'm thrilled about it," he opined.
Over the past few seasons in the domestic circuit, Rahul has managed to score heavily, which earned him a much-deserved call-up in the Test team. But he hasn’t been able to replicate similar form in international cricket and has shone only in patches with the limited chances he has had. He believes consistency at international level is a key factor in determining his place in the team and believes that success and failure has to be looked upon equally.
"Of course, I have to be more consistent. As an opener, one needs to make sure that you're building the right foundation for the team. I agree that I did not perform well in a couple of Tests. But I am still a bit new in international cricket and I am taking it in my stride. It is important that I treat successes and failures equally and learn from it to become a better player," he added.
The young gun will be looking to continue from where he left off last season in the Ranji Trophy for Karnataka, by scoring more runs and proving his worth. He will feature in his first match this season against Vidarbha on October 15th.
