Knowledge about the sport is most important thing for an anchor, says Mayanti Langer

Television anchor Mayanti Langer has often been in the limelight, unfortunately, due to the performances of her husband, Indian cricketer Stuart Binny. During an interview with a local Bengali daily Ananda Plus, she revealed how she maintains a balance between her personal and professional life, and feels glamour is not the ultimate criteria for being a successful television anchor. Knowledge about the game is necessary, rest are all vague, admitting fashionable attire do not contribute to success.

Recently, during the T20 series against West Indies in the United States of America, Binny conceded 32 runs in a single over and many on social media had a go at the couple. In a reply to it, Mayanti posted a long letter against the bullies and trolls.

Asked about how she deals with the performances of her husband, especially when she is in a studio, the anchor stated that she tries to keep her personal feelings away from work.

“I get disappointed and at times very happy. But I am never in a situation to express my feelings. Once you get inside the studio, you are from a different planet. Personal feelings do not find a place at work,” said Mayanti.

She was also very particular about the Twitter incident and said she is not ready to answer any questions related to social networking sites. Being the leading Indian female presenter in cricket these days, Mayanti feels that the knowledge about the sport is the only thing necessary to be a successful anchor.

Glamour and fashion do not have a big part to play in the same, “How well you dress, what you wear, no one is bothered about it. After office, people want to hear about gossip from the cricketing world, which is the most important thing.

“Applying make-up for hours in spite of having very little knowledge about the game won’t help. It is useless to expose your body and glamour inside the cricket field,” she added.

It was also very surprising to hear that football is the first love of the Delhi-born, and that she was even a football anchor when she started her career. She also added, “I prefer football to cricket. I’ve grown up watching and playing football. So, I am more of a football fan. But nowadays, I understand a lot about cricket after sitting outside the field for long hours.”
