India's woes with DRS continue as Virat Kohli's decision to opt for review fails
Ever since India embraced the idea of DRS, the team hasn't been able to make the most of it. England's tour of India is the first time that the BCCI has agreed to use the controversial DRS system during a home series.
The Indian team has been finding it tough to get their calls right with respect to DRS so far in this series and the third Test witnessed yet another such instance when skipper Virat Kohli got it all wrong when he opted for a DRS during England’s first innings.

In the 77th over, India's Ravindra Jadeja was bowling to Johnny Bairstow and the left-armer bowled a slider which drifted and beat the inside edge of Bairstow, who failed to get the bat in front of his pads. The batsman was hit on his front leg and it looked really close. The entire team was quick to appeal but the umpire Chris Gaffaney seemed unimpressed.
Skipper Kohli didn't wait for too long and decided to review the decision immediately. Interestingly, Kumar Dharmasena, who was donning the duties of third umpire this time, went on air instructing the on-field umpire Gaffaney.
Dharmasena with his ever-so-calm voice said, "Fair delivery, looks like there's no inside edge. Nothing on the UltraEdge. Can you go to ball-tracking please. Pitching - In-line, impact - in-line, wickets - missing – sliding down leg."
The replays showed the ball clearly going down the leg side and hence the on-field umpire's decision wasn't overturned.
This isn’t the first time that the Indian team has failed to get the decision in its favour while going for the DRS. The first two Tests witnessed several instances where the Indian players opted for a review without taking any of their teammates’ views and ended up regretting.

However, the Indian team was finally relieved after Bairstow was dismissed in the 84th over by Jayant Yadav. The right-hand batsman was given out LBW by Marais Erasmus after Jayant Yadav bowled one outside off which turned in sharply after pitching and went on to hit the front leg of Bairstow.
The English team ended the day one at the score 268 for the loss of eight wickets.
