Kumar Sangakkara talks about his best partnerships, his dream XI and Virat Kohli's future
Kumar Sangakkara has been a legend in the field of cricket. He is one of the chosen few who seem to be born for the game. As he pads up for his penultimate Test, he will definitely be missed in the game. Asked what he will miss the least out of wicket-keeping, captaincy or fielding, while talking to Cricbuzz, Sangakkara said, “I'll miss wicket-keeping the least. I'm a terrible fielder, so that doesn't even come into the picture. I won't miss all three, really..”
On the best partnerships of his life, he considered Mahela and wife Yahali as the best, but said that Yahali would be the better partner.
He gave the perfect answer when asked who is a better batsman, Mahela Jayawardene or Aravinda de Dilva, saying “That's a tough question. Both of them are amazing. Aravinda is everyone's personal favorite, without a doubt. Even Mahela will say that, if you ask him. Sentimentally, it is Aravinda, but style-wise it is definitely Mahela.”
Kohli will break every Indian record: Sangakkara
It is no secret that Sangakkara admires Murali. Asked whether it is harder to keep to him or bat against him, Sangakkara said, in his characteristically honest manner, “Both were exceptionally difficult, and in both he's made me look like an idiot.
His favourite players were revealed when asked who would open in his dream XI. He said, “Non-Srilankan? All around the world it will be Murali, otherwise. If it is a non-Sri Lankan, then it will be Shane Warne. Opener... I would say Matthew Hayden. My fast bowler would be Wasim Akram.”
Perhaps the toughest question was asking him to pick between Virat Kohli, Joe Root or Angelo Mathews. He answered with something that will undoubtedly make Indian fans happy: “That's a tough pick. All three are unbelievable players.
“If I can separate the three Kohli will break every Indian record. Root is going to get very close to or probably (become) the best England has produced. Angi (Angelo Mathews), you can write now, he's unbelievable as an all-round cricketer. Angi is the future of Sri Lankan cricket. He's just unbelievable!”
