Lasith Malinga to play for Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL

Sri lanka’s Lasith Malinga is set to make CPL appearance with his crushing yorkers

Lasith Malinga will play for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Malinga will replace Mohammad Hafeez, as the Pakistani all-rounder will be leaving on national duty for the tour of Zimbabwe which is slated to start on August 23.

Malinga will be the third Sri Lankan cricketer to play in the CPL after Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jaywardene. Murali plays for the Jamaica Tallawahs while Mahela is all set to join the Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel, reported Cricinfo.

Malinga will be the fourth overseas signing for the Guyanese team who had earlier picked Martin Guptill, James Franklin and Mohammad Hafeez as their foreign players.

With the exit of the international players from Pakistan, Umar Akmal of the Barbados Tridents has been replaced by Azhar Mahmood.

Mahmood has been a player in high demand in most leagues the world over due his all round prowess. He has picked 213 wickets from 188 games, making him the fourth highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket. Only Malinga, Alfonso Thomas and Dirk Nannes have more wickets.
