Latest ICC ODI Rankings: David Warner, Trent Boult surge up the rankings
Before the start of the series, South Africa were in fourth place with 110 points, only decimal points behind India who were in third. However, courtesy of a 5-0 whitewash over Australia, South Africa have rocketed up to second place with 116 points.
As a result of their loss, Australia lost six points but still remain in first place with 118 points now just two points ahead of South Africa. As a result of South Africa’s rise, New Zealand and India, who begin their five-match ODI series on Sunday at Dharamsala are in third and fourth place with 113 and 110 points.
In the batsmen’s rankings, the top two remained the same as AB de Villiers continued his stay at the top of the rankings despite missing the ODI series against Australia as a result of injury and Indian Test captain Virat Kohli is still No.2 but behind him is where the major changes have happened.
In third place, is Australia’s David Warner, who reached his career-best position in the ODI rankings having climbed up nine places after scoring 386 runs and finishing the five-match series as the leading run-scorer.
The other major mover is South African opener Quinton de Kock who moved up five places to No.4 courtesy of another impressive series in which he finished as South Africa’s second-leading run-scorer behind Rilee Rossouw, whose 311 runs helped him move up 30 places to a career-best rank of 32. Kane Williamson will start the ODI series at No.5 with Martin Guptill taking the sixth spot.
Courtesy of his three centuries in three matches against West Indies, Pakistan’s Babar Azam is now in his career-best ranking of 15th, up 57 places thanks to his record-breaking feat in Pakistan’s 3-0 triumph.
Two New Zealand fast bowlers make it into the top five of the ICC ODI bowlers rankings ahead of the five-match ODI series against India which starts on Sunday. Despite his impressive performances in South Africa’s whitewash, Imran Tahir has only managed to climb two places to No.3 on the list.
Sunil Narine’s tally of just three wickets in the ODI series meant he dropped to second place while Adil Rashid climbed to his career-best ranking of No.7 and Mashrafe Mortaza also making his way into the top 10 which doesn’t feature a single Indian bowler..
