Latest ICC T20I Rankings: Jasprit Bumrah moves to No.2, Imad Wasim vaults into the top five

Imad Wasim had a brilliant series with the ball, picking up nine wickets

After playing just two of the three T20Is against Pakistan, West Indies’ Samuel Badree finally relinquished top spot in the latest ICC T20I Rankings for bowlers. The West Indian leg spinner moved down to third place which meant South Africa’s Imran Tahir took top spot and Jasprit Bumrah climbed to No.2.

After finishing Pakistan’s 3-0 T20I series win against West Indies as the leading wicket-taker with nine wickets, left-arm spinner Imad Wasim rocketed up to fourth place, displacing India’s Ravichandran Ashwin who is now in fifth place.

His nine wickets in the series came at an incredible economy rate of less than 4.5 and helped him jump 33 places to No.4 on the list and as the highest ranked Pakistan bowler and only Pakistani player in the top ten of either the batsmen or bowler’s rankings.

After a poor show in the first T20I and good comeback in the second, Badree couldn’t do enough as he dropped two places to No.3 and is now just five points ahead of Wasim in fourth place. The left-arm spinner’s meteoric rise also meant Ashwin slipped to No.5 in the rankings.

Badree’s drop means Imran Tahir continued to assert his status as one of the finest limited-overs, as his No.1 ranking in T20Is goes along with his No.5 ranking in ODIs. The rest of the top ten are largely the usual suspects with James Faulkner at No.6 and another South African in Kyle Abbott taking the No.7 spot.

Another West Indian spinner who didn’t have a great time was Sunil Narine, who currently occupies ninth place while another top performer in the T20I series, Sohail Tanvir whose five wickets in the series helped him climb 19 places to No.36 in the bowlers rankings.

With no further T20Is scheduled for the rest of the year between the top 10 teams, it looks as though this is how the rankings will look like until January 2017 when the next T20I series will take place. After a year that has so far been filled with T20Is, the next few months as it stand will see no T20 cricket.
