Latham to lead new-look New Zealand
New Zealand batsman Tom Latham will captain a new-look team in their one-day international tri-series against Ireland and Bangladesh.
Latham is set to become the Black Caps' 22nd ODI skipper in the opening game against hosts Ireland on May 14.
New Zealand are without the likes of Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill, Trent Boult and Tim Southee due to their Indian Premier League commitments.
They have named three potential ODI debutants in paceman Seth Rance, all-rounder Scott Kuggeleijn and Test bowler Neil Wagner.
"Tom has been a leader within the side for a while now and this is a chance to continue his development in that area," Black Caps selector Gavin Larsen said.
"At 25 years old Tom is still a youthful captain, but he's performed the role well for Canterbury and New Zealand Under-19s in the past. With the likes of Ross [Taylor] and Luke [Ronchi] in the squad, there also are some experienced players to help support him.
"It's a great learning opportunity for Tom and a chance for other squad members to take on a bigger leadership role too."
After two matches against both Ireland and Bangladesh, New Zealand head to England and Wales for the ICC Champions Trophy.
