Liam Livingstone sustains head injury after a bar brawl
Lancashire cricketer Liam Livingstone has sustained head injuries after he was struck by a glass during a bar brawl in Ashford on Saturday night, reports ESPNcricinfo. He was celebrating with his teammates after their victory over Kent in the NatwestT20 Blast quarter-finals and when one of the players had a small altercation with a man from another group, a fight broke out.
According to a witness, one of the players "had blood pouring down his face". An ambulance was called up shortly and the police arrived at the spot as well. Kent police claimed that there were reports that "a man in his twenties had been assaulted and sustained a head injury" and it had been attended to.
A Lancashire club statement read: "LCCC is aware of an incident that took place on Saturday evening involving some of our players. The matter is currently being investigated by the police and nobody from the club will be making any further comment at this stage."
It is also reported that the England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler, Australian all-rounder James Faulkner and head coach Ashley Giles were present at the scene. The coach might reveal further information after his side’s one-day match against Hampshire tonight.
Livingstone made just 12 runs in the match, but saw his side qualify for the T20 finals day even though the match ended in a tie. Lancashire progress since they lost fewer wickets.
He came into the spotlight earlier this year when he smashed an unbeaten 350 off just 138 deliveries for his club Nantwich CC.
This might have really disturbed Lancashire after their overseas recruit and World Cup winning Australian all-rounder James Faulkner was involved in drunken driving incident earlier for which he has been banned from driving in the United Kingdom for two years.
Also, this isn’t the first time a player has been involved in a bar brawl. Two years ago, Australia’s David Warner and England’s Joe Root were involved in an ugly incident where the Australian opener punched the young English batsman.
The issue escalated further again during the ongoing Ashes series when Warner claimed that the Englishman had taunted South African batsman Hashim Amla which provoked him to launch a physical attack.
Liam tweeted this immediately after his side’s win,
You beauty!!!!!! What a win from @LancsCCC great work from @ashyp_5 @josbuttler and good mitting from @Arronlilley20 #finalsdaybaby
