List of non-retained players who played IPL 2024 but aren't a part of IPL 2025 Auction ft. Amit Mishra
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction is just a sleep away and the excitement is only skyrocketing. All franchises made their retentions ahead of the auction and the list of players up for grabs contains some of the cricketing superstars from across the globe.
The two-day event will be crucial as franchises will look to build strong and competitive squads for 2025 and further seasons. Wicketkeepers, batters, bowlers, all-rounders - each category will see intense bidding wars as these players are set to go under the hammer.
The non-retained players will hope for bids from new franchises or for their former teams to buy them back. Among the non-retained players who featured in the previous IPL season, there are interestingly some names who are not a part of the 2020 auction short-list.
While the reason for some of these players not being short-listed is pretty straightforward, some of them are mysteriously not a part of the list. On that note, let us take a look at who these players are ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 auction.
List of non-retained players who played IPL 2024 but aren't a part of IPL 2025 Auction
#1 Dinesh Karthik
Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik had announced that he would retire after the completion of IPL 2024. Last season, he played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and scored 326 runs from 15 games with a strike-rate of 187.35.
Karthik is also among the highest run-getters in the history of the league, having amassed 4842 runs from 257 games and has scored 22 fifties with a best score of an unbeaten 97.
While Karthik is not a part of the auction list this year, he will continue to be with RCB as their batting coach and is also set to be a part of the franchise at the auction table.
#2 Cameron Green
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who would have been a high-priority pick for many teams if available at the auction, is also not a part of the list this time around.
Green is recovering from a stress fracture in his lower back and is not a part of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as well. Green also played for RCB last year and could have been a possible retention if available. He scored 255 runs last season and picked up 10 wickets as well.
The Australian all-rounder has played only two seasons in the IPL so far but has impressive numbers. He has scored 707 runs and picked up 16 wickets from 29 matches.
#3 Wriddhiman Saha
Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha played the 2024 season for the Gujarat Titans. However, he played only nine matches and scored 136 runs. Saha has been a part of five teams in the cash-rich league and across 170 games, scored 2934 runs with 13 fifties and an unbeaten century that he slammed in the 2014 IPL final.
Saha took 92 catches and affected 26 stumpings as well. He was released by the Gujarat Titans and is not a part of the auction list this time around. The reason he is missing is pretty straightforward though.
The 40-year-old plays his domestic cricket for Bengal and had announced that he would retire after the conclusion of the ongoing domestic season.
#4 Shikhar Dhawan
Among India's top openers and highest run-getters in the IPL, Shikhar Dhawan recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket and thus, does not feature in the auction list.
Dhawan is among the top players to have played in the league, piling on 6769 runs from 222 matches, including two hundreds and 51 half-centuries. The southpaw also holds the record of being the only player to score back-to-back IPL hundreds.
The 38-year-old played for the Punjab Kings last season but could only feature in five games as he had to stay away due to injury. In those five games, he scored 152 runs.
#5 Matthew Wade
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade was surprisingly not shortlisted for the upcoming mega auction. Wade has had a short IPL career and does not have any significant performances either.
He has played only 15 games and has scored 183 runs with a poor average of 13.07 and a strike-rate of 103.38. The left-handed batter played just a couple of games for Gujarat Titans in 2024 and scored only four runs.
It is likely that the 36-year-old was not short-listed given his record in the IPL, that does not add any weight to his case for being considered by the franchises.
#6 Harpreet Bhatia
Left-handed batting all-rounder Harpreet Bhatia is another name whose exclusion from the auction this time could be due to insignificant performances in the league. Bhatia was a part of the Punjab Kings last year but managed to play just two games and scored 27 runs with a strike-rate of 79.41.
He has not bowled a single ball in the league and played only as a batter. In total, Bhatia has played just 9 IPL matches, scoring 123 runs with an average of 17.57 and a strike-rate of 103.36.
#7 Amit Mishra
Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra played for the Lucknow Super Giants last season. However, he played just a solitary game throughout the season and picked up a single wicket in that match.
Mishra is among the most successful bowlers in the history of the IPL, having picked up 174 wickets from 162 matches with four four-wicket hauls and a five-wicket haul as well.
The leg-spinner played for three other franchises throughout his IPL career - Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, and SunRisers Hyderabad. It remains unclear whether Mishra had registered for the auction or not. However, he is not a part of the final shortlist.
A report in Times of India suggests that Mishra, nearing 42, has decided to retire from the league himself.
