List of fastest centuries in T20Is
The first match of the two-match T20I series between India and West Indies did not only witness the most runs in the history of any T20 match but also saw two players score a century in the same match.
Those two players, West Indies’ Evin Lewis and India’s KL Rahul did not only bring up their respective maiden T20I hundreds but also got there in rapid time. They got there fast enough to make it into the list of 5 fastest centuries in T20Is. Where do they feature on this list? Just read on and find out.
Here are the 6 fastest centuries in T20Is:
6. Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Babar Hayat - 50 balls
Chris Gayle holds the record for the most centuries in the format and Brendon McCullum has more runs than anyone else in T20Is, so it should come as little surprise that both players make this list. But the biggest surprise is the presence of Hong Kong’s Babar Hayat, whose 50-ball century earlier in the year against Oman helps him take the fifth spot alongside two bonafide T20 legends.
Chris Gayle’s knock that guarantees his place on this list occured in the first match of the inaugural ICC World T20 in South Africa against the hosts. What a way to kick off the format and the tournament as he smashed a 50-ball hundred and helped his side score 205 which unfortunately wasn’t enough for the win.
Brendon McCullum’s knock came against arch-rivals Australia in Christchurch in 2010. If Gayle’s effort ended in defeat, McCullum’s heroics saw his side tie the match and eventually win in the eliminator.
