List of unsold players from Day 1 of the IPL 2018 Auction
Day 1 of the IPL auction at Bengaluru came to an end with 109 players going under the hammer. 78 players received bids while the remaining 31 players went unsold. Ben Stokes once again fetched the biggest price in the auction, being sold for a whopping 12.5 crore to the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals.
KL Rahul received an astonishing sum of INR 11 crore from Kings XI Punjab while Manish Pandey was also sold for the same amount to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Veterans Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir did not fetch heavy buys. Yuvi and Bhajji were sold for their base prices of INR 2 crore to Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings respectively while Gambhir came back to Delhi Daredevils for INR 2.8 crore.
Afghan spinner Rashid Khan came back to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 9 crore. Krunal Pandya became the highest uncapped player in IPL auction history as Mumbai Indians used their RTM card to keep him for an astronomical INR 8.8 crore.
There were a number of shocks regarding players who went unsold. Explosive opening batsman Chris Gayle failed to get any bid while IPL’s highest wicket-taker Lasith Malinga also went unsold. Another huge shock was Mitchell McClenaghan who failed to fetch any bid. The Kiwi pacer has taken 54 wickets in just three seasons and it does come as a surprise that he went unsold in the auction.
