List of players to have picked up multiple hat-tricks in men's T20Is ft. Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins became only the fifth bowler to have multiple hat-tricks in the shortest format. The pacer achieved this feat in Australia's second game of the Super 8 against Afghanistan on Sunday, June 23.
Cummins first dismissed Rashid Khan on the last ball of the 18th over; the Afghan captain hit it straight into the hands of Tim David at long-on. The Australia pacer then came to bowl the last over of the innings and took the wicket of Karim Janat on the first ball, who tried to go for a big one but only managed to be caught by Tim David.
Gulbadin was the next to get dismissed; he was also looking for a maximum but was caught on deep mid-wicket as Afghanistan lost momentum. As a result, Rashid Khan and co. finished with 148 runs in their 20 overs.
In response, Australia didn't start well and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Glenn Maxwell (59) was the lone fighter for Australia; however, Afghanistan scripted history as they defeated the Men in Yellow for the first time, keeping their hopes to qualify for the semi-final alive.

#1 Lasith Malinga
1) Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh in 2017
Lasith Malinga got his first T20 hat-trick in the final game of a two-match series played against Bangladesh in 2017. It was the penultimate over of the Bangladeshi innings when Malinga first got rid of Mushfiqur Rahim with a slow-dipping off-cutter.
The Sri Lankan pacer then hit the bullseye to dismiss Mashrafe Mortaza. Next, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was trapped in front of wickets as Malinga got his first T20I hat-trick.
However, Sri Lanka ended on the losing side. Chasing a target of 177, Upul Tharanga’s team fell short by 45 runs.
2) Sri Lanka vs New Zealand in 2019
Sri Lanka faced New Zealand in the final game of a three-match T20I series in 2019. Batting first, Sri Lanka could only score 125 runs; however, Malinga was at his best in the second innings. It was the third ball of the third over when the Sri Lankan pacer bowled an in-swinging delivery to get the better of Colin Munro.
On the very next ball, Hamish Rutherford was caught in front of the wickets. Malinga then bowled a perfect yorker to dismiss Colin de Grandhomme to get his hat-trick. However, things didn't end here. Malinga dismissed Ross Taylor to have four wickets in a row as New Zealand had their backs against the wall.
Lasith Malinga took five wickets in the game as Sri Lanka won by 37 runs.
#2 Tim Southee
1) New Zealand vs Pakistan in 2010
Tim Southee got his first T20I hat-trick in a game against Pakistan in 2010. It was the eighth over of the Men in Green’s innings when the Kiwi pacer first dismissed Younis Khan on the second ball of the over. Next, it was Mohammad Hafeez who knicked it straight into the keeper's hand. Meanwhile, Umar Akmal was trapped in front of wickets as Southee completed his first T20I hat-trick.
The New Zealand pacer took five wickets in the match as Martin Guptill (54) led the way in the second innings. The Black Caps won the match by five wickets while chasing a target of 144 runs.
2) New Zealand vs India in 2022
Tim Southee took his second hat-trick against India in the second game of a three-match series in 2022. It was the last over of the innings when the Kiwi pacer got the wicket of Hardik Pandya on the third ball, who hit straight into the hands of Jimmy Neesham at long-off.
Next, it was Deepak Hooda who was caught at short fine leg. Southee dismissed Washington Sundar next to get his hattrick. The Men in Blue scored 191 runs thanks to an unbeaten knock of 111 runs by Suryakumar Yadav.
In the second innings, Deepak Hooda got four wickets for India as the Black Caps lost the match by 65 runs. Meanwhile, Tim Southee scripted history by becoming the second bowler to take multiple hat-tricks in the shortest format of the game.
#3 Mark Pavlovic
1) Serbia vs Turkey in 2023
Mark Pavlovic got his first hat-trick against Turkey in 2023. Batting first, Serbia scored 181 runs thanks to a 91-run inning from Alexander Dizija. In the second innings, the Serbian captain created history by first dismissing Mecit Ozturk on the last ball of the 16th over.
He then dismissed Muhammed Turkmen and Muhammet Kursat Canbaz on the first two deliveries of the 18th over to get his first hatrick. Eventually, Serbia won the match by 70 runs.
2) Serbia vs Croatia in 2023
Mark Pavlovic got his second hat trick against Croatia. Pavlovic got rid of Luka Papa Stubbs with the second ball of the 18th over in the Croatian innings. On the very next delivery, he cleaned up Hrvoje Hajnic, and then on the fourth ball, he got rid of Antonio Faletar to get his second T20I hat-trick.
Croatia were bowled out on 76 runs as Serbia chased down the target with 69 balls remaining and won the match by nine wickets.
#4 Waseem Abbas
1) Malta vs Belgium in 2021
It was the first game of the five-match series when Waseem Abbas got his first hat-trick. Abbas first dismissed Ashiqullah Said on the last ball of the 18th over. He then came to bowl the final over and dismissed Khalid Ahmadi and Nemish Mehta in two consecutive deliveries to get his hat-trick.
Belgium were bowled out on 99 runs, and Malta faced no issues as they easily chased down the target with 22 balls remaining and won the match by six wickets.
2) Malta vs France in 2023
Malta faced France in a Mdina Cup match in 2023. Batting first, Malta scored 125 runs, and France was on their way to winning the contest. They needed nine runs to win from the last two overs and had five wickets in hand.
However, Waseem Abbas turned the tide in Malta’s favor. He came to bowl the penultimate over and first cleaned up Zain Ahmad on the second ball of the over. He then dismissed Shayam Warnakulasuriya and Dawood Ahmadzai to claim his second hat-trick as France lost momentum. Malta were brilliant as they won the match by four runs.
#5 Pat Cummins
1) Australia vs Bangladesh in 2024
Australian bowler Pat Cummins became the most recent player to make it to the elite list. Cummins took his first hat-trick in Men in Yellow’s Super 8 match against Bangladesh. It was the second last ball of the 18th over when he got his first scalp, Mahmudullah, and then it was Mahedi Hasan who was caught out on the next ball.
The Australian pacer then came to bowl the last over of the innings and got the better of Towhid Hridoy as he became the second Aussie bowler to take a hat-trick in T20 World Cups. Australia went on to win the match by 28 runs, as per DLS, thanks to a brilliant innings from David Warner.
2) Australia vs Afghanistan in 2024
Pat Cummins got his second hat-trick against Afghanistan in the Super 8 Group 1 match of the 2024 T20 World Cup played on June 23. The Aussie pacer first dismissed the rival captain, Rashid Khan. Meanwhile, Karim Janat and Gulbadin became his next two victims as he executed his second hat trick.
However, Australia lost the game by 21 runs while chasing a target of 149. Gulbadin was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets and helping his team get their first-ever win against Australia.
