Innings Summary :
After losing Rahane early, Faf Du Plessis stroked his way to a delightful half century. His partnership with Kevin Pietersen seemed to be taking the game away from the Gujarat Lions, but the spin duo of Jadeja and Tambe, with able assistance from seamers Bravo and Faulkner pulled the game back into balance by taking timely wickets and at regular occasions.
If Tambe were impressive earlier on, Jadeja’s four overs were the key factor which ensured that Pune did not end up amassing an un attainable total. If the Lions had not missed a slew of run-outs, Pune might have ended with a lower score than what they have made.
However, credit has to be given to Faf Du Plessis and Kevin Pietersen, who provided a fantastic foundation inside 14 overs. However, once Pietersen was snared by DJ Bravo, none of the other batsmen could find their feet which saw the Pune batting lose steam in the last few overs. A late flourish from Dhoni might just be the difference on the day. With the Gujarat Lions possesing a strong batting line-up and the Pune bowlers in red-hot form, it will be an interesting chase to look out for.
9.32 PM : Rising Pune Supergiants amass 163 in their allotted 20 overs. Gujarat need 164 in 20 overs to win.
9.30 PM : FOUR! Dhoni waits for the slower ball, and carves it between point and short third man to collect a boundary off the last ball of the innings. A great little cameo from skipper Dhoni, scoring 22 of just 10 balls with two hits to the boundary and one over it. 20 runs off the last over from DJ Bravo.
9.29 PM: Another missed run-out! Karthik fails to collect yet again, and Dhoni is safe!
9.28 : SIX! Dhoni spots the slower ball and thumps it over long-on for a massive six.
9.27 PM : Run-out missed! Dhoni hares down the wicket for a single and turns back to the strikers end, leaving Rajat Bhatia high and dry, who was never interested in the double. However, Finch throws wide at the non-strikers end and misses the run-out.
9.26 PM : FOUR! Dhoni tries to heave it down the ground, and manages a thick edge which evades a diving Dinesh Karthik to run away to the third-man fence.
Dwayne Bravo is steaming in to bowl the final over.
9.25 PM : RPS 143/5 in 19 overs. A stunning over from Jadeja, giving away just 2 runs and getting rid of the dangerous Mitchell Marsh. Ends his spell with brilliant figures of 4-0-18-2.
9.23 PM : WICKET! Jadeja castles Mitchell Marsh. Marsh tries to go big over long-on, misses the ball completely and sees his stumps shattered. Marsh b Jadeja 7(11).
Jadeja to bowl the 19th over.
9.21 PM: RPS 141-4 in 18 overs. Great bowling from Bravo here, delivering slower balls to perfection and not allowing the Supergiants batsmen to free their arms easily.
Dwayne Bravo comes in for his third over.
9.17 PM : RPS 136/4 in 17 overs. Great bowling from Jadeja, containing the batsman and getting rid of Smith.
Mitchell Marsh walks in.
9.15 PM : WICKET! Jadeja strikes, get rid of Steven Smith. Sees Smith trying to clear covers, bowls in wide and Smith ends up scooping to James Faulkner. Smith c Faulkner b Jadeja 5(6).
Jadeja continues.
9.14 PM : RPS 134-3 in 16 overs. Eventful over from Tambe, getting belted for two boundaries and then claiming Faf with a clever variation.
9.11 PM : WICKET! Faf’s entertaining effort comes to an end. Puts on the dancing shoes and misses the ball, Karthik whips off the bails in a flash. Big wicket here. Du Plessis st Karthik b Tambe 69 ( 43 balls, 4x5, 6x4)
9.10 PM : FOUR, then SIX! Brendon McCullum just palms the ball over the fence after attempting to take the catch while jumping.
Pravin Tambe to continue.
9.08 PM : RPS 121-2 in 15 overs. An eventful over, with two missed-run outs, both involving Steve Smith. Although the first one was a dolly, the second was a a wide throw, which made the job difficult for Karthik.
9.07 PM : Ooohh! Will that be a costly miss? Du Plessis pulls to midwicket, Jadeja fields and throws to Karthik, who fails to collect the ball and misses a run-out against Steven Smith. How big a miss will this be?
Steve Smith walks in.
9.02 PM : WICKET! Kevin Pietersen bowled by DJ Bravo. A big bottom edge, and back he goes. End of a wonderful over from Bravo, giving away just 2 runs, while also picking up the big fish Kevin Pietersen. Pietersen b Bravo (37 off 21)
DJ Bravo will continue after the time-out.
Strategic time-out again. RPS 111/1 in 13 overs. Pune looking very strong and have a wonderful platform on which they can now accelerate with ease, considering the power-packed batting line-up they possess. Jakati also ends his spell, going for 40 in 4 overs without any luck.

8.54 PM : Four! Straight as a whistle from Faf Du Plessis.

8.50 PM : 100 comes up for the Supergiants! Pietersen drives on the up, Raina almost grabs a one-handed stunner. Instead a single brings up the hundred.
8.48 PM : Four! First ball from Faulkner, Pietersen playes late to get a four through third-man.
James Faulkner comes into the attack.
8.46 PM : RPS 93-1 in 11 overs. Good comeback from Jakati to give away just 6 runs in the over, after getting carted for 23 off his first two overs.
8.43 PM : RPS 87-1 in 10 overs. Excellent over from Tambe, giving away just 7 runs and no boundaries.
Tambe to continue after the time-out.
Strategic time-out in place. Raina has utilised his spinners to maximum effect, with the spin trio bowling 6 off the the 9 overs bowled so far.
8.39 PM : RPS 82/1 in 9 overs. Some stunning fielding efforts shown throughout the over, with the Lions fielders throwig themselves around to save three boundaries in the over.
Jadeja continues.
8.34 PM : RPS 76/1 in 8 overs. A decent over until the last ball, which Faf dispatches for Four through Long-on, yields 10 runs overall. He's look good however, the only bowler who has posed a threat so far. The batsmen looked to give him the charge, but to no avail as Tambe kept varying his length accordingly.
Pravin Tambe to continue.
8.31 PM : RPS 66/1 in 7 overs. 9 runs from that over, including a six.
8.30 PM : SIX! Straight six from Faf Du Plessis.
Ravindra Jadeja comes onto bowl.
8.27 PM : RPS 57/1 in 6 overs. 15 runs off that Bravo over. RPS striking at more than 10 an over here at the end of the powerplay.
8.26 PM : Fifty comes up for RPS in just 5.4 overs. A wonderful start for them!
8.24 PM : SIX! KP dispatches the first ball from DJ Bravo over the square leg boundary.
DJ Bravo comes onto bowl.
8.22 PM : RPS 41/1 in 5 overs. Yet again an expensive over from Jakati. A six and a four from that.
8.21 PM : Four! Pietersen now joins the party. Comes down and strikes it hard, misfield gives him four.
8.19 PM : SIX! First one for Pune and Du Plessis. Dances down the track, and smacks it over long-on with ease.
8.18 PM : Good over from the veteran leg-spinner, snaring Rahane and giving away just 5 runs. RPS 28/1 in 4.
Kevin Pietersen walks in.
8.16 PM : Wicket! Pravin Tambe strikes in his first over. Rahane lbw Tambe 21(17).
8.15 PM : Four! Rahane smacks another flat one down the ground. Looks in sublime form yet again!
Bowling change, Pravin Tambe comes in, facing his ex-RR teammate Rahane!
8.13 PM : RPS 23/0 in 3. Yet another decent over from Praveen, apart from the one boundary in the over.
8.11 pm : FOUR! Faf now plays on the back-foot, drives it through the covers for four.
So, spin straight up from Gujarat. Good over for RPSG with two boundaries. Kumar to continue.
8.07 PM : FOUR! FOUR! Two consecutive from the in-form Rahane in the over apart from the three singles. RPS 16/0 in 2 overs.
8.05 PM : Surprise! Surprise! Jakati to share the new ball with Praveen.
8.04 PM : A decent start for both teams, with Praveen getting some swing and a boundary for Rahane. RPG 5/0 in 1 over.
8.01 PM: Four! Second ball, width offered and Rahane smacks the ball to the cover point boundary. Great way to get off the mark!
8.00 PM : Rahane and Faf come out to bat. Rahane takes strike, Praveen Kumar to bowl the first over.
7.59 PM: Rajkot is packed and all set to go. Pitch looks flat, with good covering of grass.
7.44 PM : Pune opt to go with their winning squad which was almost a no-brainer, with Dhoni not a big fan of shuffling the squad. Gujarat on the other hand have made three changes by bringing in experienced spinning duo of Pravin Tambe and Shadab Jakati in place of Sangwan and Ladda, while opting for Akshdeep Nath in place of Ishan Kishan.

Today’s match prediction, Who will win today?
We are expecting Dhoni-lead RPS to win this one.
7.31 PM : Suresh Raina admits that he would have batted first too. Pune goes in with the squad, while Gujarat make three changes to their squad.
Who won the toss today?
7.30 PM : TOSS TIME! Dhoni calls the coin right, Pune to bat first.
7:27 PM: Well Suresh Raina has no shame in accepting the fact that MS Dhoni will be a crowd puller in Rajkot. Both teams have started off their campaigns with authoritative victories in their opening campaigns and look well settled. One of them will have to face a hurdle today. Right then we are at the Saurashtra Cricket Association in Rajkot, which will become the 32nd venue to host an IPL encounter.
7.21 PM : Just 10 minutes left for the toss, MS Dhoni rolls his arm over at practice and gathers loud cheers from the packed Rajkot crowd!
7.10 PM : Here’s a fact. Although Suresh Raina is the leading run scorer in IPL history with 3719 runs under his belt, he has never ended up winning the orange cap across the eight seasons of IPL so far.
7.08 PM: After starting their IPL season with victories, one of the two sides will have to go down against the other debutant in IPL.
7.07 PM: Gujarat Lions on other hand have a plethora of all-rounders who restore balance of the team to a nicety, and they look far more rounded.
6:53 PM: Rising Pune Supergiants have a belligerent top order and they will depend on them to hide their relatively weak bowling attack. Having said that, the very same team decimated the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in the opener.
Tonight, @ImRaina and @msdhoni will be on the opposite side for the first time ever! #GLvRPS pic.twitter.com/Q3Jmh7Vpjr
— Sportskeeda (@Sportskeeda) April 14, 2016
There will be bare minimum secrets between these two teams, and everything will boil down to who executes the plan better on the day.
6:35 PM: KEY PLAYERS to watch out: We highlight three from each side whose performance could have a huge bearing on the outcome.
GUJARAT LIONS:
3) RAVINDRA JADEJA: You cannot ignore the impact that Jadeja is going to have on this game. He's playing at home, he knows these conditions better than anyone else and the crowd are going to be right behind him. He has played 14 matches across formats at this venue, scored 1084 runs at an average of 83.38 and taken 48 wickets. The stage is set for Jadeja to shine.
2) DWAYNE BRAVO: Calling him an all rounder would be doing injustice to him, because he is a superstar with the ball and more than handy with the ball. He's such a superstar that he overtook Lasith Malinga in the previous game to now sit on top of T20 cricket's leading wicket taker list. He brings a lot of good vibes to the dressing room, and will be looking to replicate his 4 wicket haul against Punjab.
1) BRENDON MCCULLUM: A bona fide superstar, the New Zealand opener who has recently retired from International cricket will be fresh and raring to go. Unlike other openers, McCullum has caught the eye because of his approach of going after bowlers immediately, he needs no time to settle and can explode first ball onwards. He will be looking to make amends after missing out during Gujarat's opener, getting out for 0.
Rising Pune Supergiants
3) RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN: Ashwin has only bowled 5 overs in his last 3 T20 encounters combined. A surprising lack of faith has been shown in him by MSD, expect that to all change however in Rajkot today. The wily off spinner will be itching to go and to impress. He will look to contain and also take crucial wickets and make inroads in the Gujarat batting order.
2) MS DHONI: Captain cool MSD didn't have much to do in the previous game. His bowlers had done a great job and his top order fired. However, he would expect to get a chance to bat today on what is expected to be a spinning pitch, and will be looking to make an immediate impact with his new franchise.
1) KEVIN PETERSEN: KP is a bit of an enigma these days. After the bitter divorce with the English Cricket Board, KP travels the globe representing a number of franchises with distinction. He only had a cameo in the previous game, but looked like he was in tremendous form. Most impressive was his six off Harbhajan Singh where he easily cleared the midwicket boundary.
6:07 PM: Dwyane Bravo is the highest wicket taker in IPL 2016, can he retain his IPL 2016 Purple Cap Holders list?
6:04 PM: Aaron Finch is 5th highest run scorer in IPL 2016, he needs 26 runs to beat Gautam Gambhir (102) to fetch IPL 2016 Orange Cap
6:03 PM: Rising Pune Supergiants: Ajinkya Rahane, Faf Du Plessis, Kevin Pietersen, Steven Smith, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain & wk), Mitchell Marsh, Rajat Bhatia, Ravichandran Ashwin, Murugan Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Rudra Pratap Singh.
6:00 PM: Gujarat Lions Playing 11 (Predicted Squad): Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch, Suresh Raina (Captain), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Eklavya Dwivedi, Ishan Kishan, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Dale Steyn, Praveen Kumar, Sarabjit Ladda,
5:00 PM: Hello! Less than 3 hours to go for the game and there's plenty to talk about including: Weather conditions, the pitch, key players & expected playing XIs.
The two debutants in this year’s IPL face each other in today's crunch encounter as the MS Dhoni-led Rising Pune Supergiants face the Suresh Raina-led Gujarat Lions led Gujarat Lions. The game will take place at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, which will host its first ever IPL game. There are a number of interesting angles to this game, none more so than the fact that Dhoni and Raina will lead two different teams against each other, having played in the same team for 8 years.
It will be a huge game for Raina, leading his side at home for the first time ever. He will not only look to improve his form but also prove to the world that he is an able leader and that he has clearly stepped out of MS Dhoni’s shadow.
Both teams won their first games in the IPL. The Rising Pune Supergiants beat the Mumbai Indians in their home ground, cruising to a victory with 9 wickets to spare. Ishant Sharma looked charged up and Mitchell Marsh was impressive with the ball. Ajinkya Rahane, Faf du Plessis & Kevin Petersen looked imperious with the bat. Bowling first, they restricted MI to a paltry score of 121/6 with only Harbhajan Singh offering any form of resistance. Chasing the target, they only needed 88 deliveries as Ajinkya Rahane took the charge with a 42 ball 66.
The Gujarat Lions had to work harder for their win, chasing down the target of 161 set by Kings XI Punjab with 5 wickets and 14 balls to spare. Champion DJ Bravo picked up 4 wickets to eclipse Lasith Malinga as the highest wicket taker in T20 cricket and Jadeja picked up two wickets as well. With the bat, Finch was awesome and ably supported by Dinesh Karthik. Vijay and Manan Vohra had gotten KXIP off to a flying start and looked to be getting away, before the Lions got a few crucial wickets and stemmed the flow of runs. Undeterred by the loss of McCullum early on for 0, Finch more than made up for his opening partner with a 47 ball 74.

We expect both teams to retain the same squads as they were both impressive and shall look to continue on their winning way. It shall be a thrilling contest at Rajkot and we shall join you with plenty of further updates in the coming hours.
WEATHER CONDITIONS:
It's a sunny day in Rajkot, currently at 35 degrees Celsius, the temperature is expected to drop to 29 before the game starts and keep dipping into the night. There is no chance of rain! So expect a full 40 overs at Rajkot today.
EARLY PITCH REPORT: The pitch is said to expect spinners and you could see Gujarat dropping Pradeep Sangwan in favour of another spinner, presumably the leggie Pravin Tambe. At 44 years old, you'd assume Pravin would have the privilege of being the oldest player to play in the IPL, but that honour belongs to one Brad Hogg of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
